A Second Chance

I love how God works in our lives

a. NBBC March 2015
i. I had had enough
ii. I was sick of the ministry
iii. I was sick of people
iv. They had so many problems
v. It was time to hang up the preaching hat
vi. I read recently that many retired pastors quit church altogether
b. But God was not done.
i. Tina one morning talked about our options
ii. I wanted church to be just her and I – She did not!!!
iii. Guess what happen?
iv. I had fish breakfast with Jesus
We:

The worries of this life

a. The parable of the sower
Matthew 13:22 CEV
22 The seeds that fell among the thornbushes are also people who hear the message. But they start worrying about the needs of this life and are fooled by the desire to get rich. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.
ii. Our world is fast paced
iii. We never allow margin in our lives
iv. We Think - A busy is a happy life
v. A slow-paced life is lazy life
b. The results of the hectic life
i. No prayer life
ii. No time for the things of God
iii. We invite God to join us if he can keep up.
iv. But they start worrying about the needs of this life and are fooled by the desire to get rich.
v. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.
vi. Not so different than what I did
vii. Not so different than what Peter did.

Lie and Deny

John 18:26–27 NLT
26 But one of the household slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus?” 27 Again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed.
ii. How do you think Peter felt then?
iii. Just a little while ago he promised Jesus, he would DIE for him.
iv. Was it “The worries and pressures of this world”?
b. What would be a just punishment?
i. His discipleship licenses revoked
ii. No more preaching
iii. Join the church and give your money and be a good little boy

The burden of guilt and shame

a. You have believed the devils lie
i. You have screwed up so bad that God could never use someone like you.
ii. I think what I did was not much different

2. Lie and deny
b. What some of you are doing is not much different either
i. You have let the cares of this world take the place of church

a. Peter do you love me?
John 21:15–17 NLT
15 After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. 16 Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. 17 A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.

iv. Peter may have been done with Peter but God wasn’t
b. Easter is coming
i. Spring is here
ii. It’s time for a fresh start
iii. God is not through with you yet
iv. It’s a fresh start for us as a church also.
v. Don’t you have a friend that needs what the church has to offer?
