Saving Faith - we experience this at salvation.
Christ woos us to Himself.
General Faith - faith that every believer has. Christ
keeps us.
The fruit of faith(faithfulness) - the word here in
Galatians is actually faithfulness. tPt says faith that
prevails. It’s the growth we see from relationship
with the Holy Spirit. - (Mt 7:20 by your fruits you’ll
know them.)
The Holy Spirit gift of faith - a supernatural
impartation of faith by the Holy Spirit. This kind of
faith is often used with miracles and other gifts of
the Holy Spirit.
Luke 8:40-54 NKJV
40 So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude
welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. 41
And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he
was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at
Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, 42
for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age,
and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes
thronged Him. 43 Now a woman, having a flow of
blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood
on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44
came from behind and touched the border of His
garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.
45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” When all
denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the
multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who
touched Me?’ ” 46 But Jesus said, “Somebody
touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.”
47 Now when the woman saw that she was not
hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before
Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the
people the reason she had touched Him and how she
was healed immediately. 48 And He said to her,
“Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you
well. Go in peace.” 49 While He was still speaking,
someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s
house, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Do not
trouble the Teacher.” 50 But when Jesus heard it, He
answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe,
and she will be made well.” 51 When He came into the
house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter,
James, and John, and the father and mother of the
girl. 52 Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said,
“Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” 53 And
they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But
He put them all outside, took her by the hand and
called, saying, “Little girl, arise.” 55 Then her spirit
returned, and she arose immediately. And He
commanded that she be given something to eat. 56
And her parents were astonished, but He charged
them to tell no one what had happened.
Supernatural Faith doesn’t come from
human understanding
Our understanding/conventional wisdom says to go to
the doctor when you are sick, right?!
That’s what this woman did, for 12 years. She spent it
all.
You might say that she just acted on a last resort, but
there was great faith here.
Mark 5:28 NKJV
28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall
be made well.”
Mark 5:22-43 NKJV
22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue
came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell
at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My
little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay
Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she
will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great
multitude followed Him and thronged Him. 25 Now a
certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26
and had suffered many things from many physicians.
She had spent all that she had and was no better, but
rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus,
she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His
garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His
clothes, I shall be made well.” 29 Immediately the
fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her
body that she was healed of the affliction. 30 And
Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had
gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said,
“Who touched My clothes?” 31 But His disciples said
to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You
say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”32 And He looked around to
see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman,
fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to
her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the
whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your
faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of
your affliction.” 35 While He was still speaking, some
came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who
said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher
any further?” 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that
was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue,
“Do not be afraid; only believe.” 37 And He permitted
no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John
the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house
of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and
those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came
in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and
weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.” 40 And
they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all
outside, He took the father and the mother of the
child, and those who were with Him, and entered
where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child
by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is
translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42
Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was
twelve years of age. And they were overcome with
great amazement. 43 But He commanded them
strictly that no one should know it, and said that
something should be given her to eat.
She reasoned that if he was really who the rumors said
he was, then she could just touch his clothes and
receive healing.
Was there biblical precedence for this? Was this
something she read or heard taught before? Nope!
And Jesus said we would do greater things. Notice he
didn’t list “things” out? Don’t put God in our religious
box. I think there is wisdom is testing things and we
learned about the gift of discerning of spirits for a
reason. Jesus worked miracles amongst sinners
(religious and non-religious) and he’s not restricted by
our rules or interpretations of scripture. He’s just
looking for those who are hungry enough to seek and
receive.
> Jesus, help me to look past my own understanding
and just believe. Cast out all fear and doubt and bring
hope in its place.
Quote from Dan McCollam - You won't offend most
by trying but you won't see anything happen if you
don't. So stir up the gifts of God within you!
Matthew 8:5-13 NKJV - The Roman Centurion
5 Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a
centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying,
“Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed,
dreadfully tormented.” 7 And Jesus said to him, “I will
come and heal him.” 8 The centurion answered and
said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come
under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant
will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority,
having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’
and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes;
and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When
Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who
followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found
such great faith, not even in Israel! 11 And I say to you
that many will come from east and west, and sit down
with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of
heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast
out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the
centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so
let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that
same hour.
Supernatural faith is a faith that trusts
Gods authority.
– Because the Roman solider knew that Jesus had
authority and he understood that, it galvanized his
faith to believe for the miracle.
– Jesus marveled at his faith. There was none like it
among all the people of Israel. Thats awesome!
What fruit, from an unbeliever!
– I think this was the beginning of proving that not
–
everything came to those to knew enough about
God, but those that believed in Him regardless of
what they knew.
There was no doubt that the centurion believed that
Jesus was a man on a mission. He simply believed that
he could be part of it!
> Jesus, Forgive me for my attempts at controlling
everything. Help me to trust your word and authority.
You’re working all things for my good and for those
called by You name. I say Amen, let it be and I take my
hands off of it. - Now tell Him what “it” is and mean it.
Matthew 17:20 NKJV
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;
for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a
mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move
from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will
be impossible for you.
Supernatural Faith is the kind that moves
mountains.
Sometimes I wonder if we want to see miracles in our
day. I think we want it when it fits in our agenda and
conforms to our preferences. We need to get back to
letting God be God and for us to remember that He’s
in control. We’re vessels meant to bear or carry His
goodness, not to adjust it first.
One word from God changes things, no one disagrees
but we’ve become content to read the headlines
instead of experiencing them firsthand and telling
them abroad.
He is STILL speaking, so let HIM!!
Next week, we’re talking about miracles. Do you want
to see miracles in your life and in this church? Would
you join me in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to go
before us and prepare us to expect to receive what we
ask?
