Introduction:
Not sure how many of you are knowledgable of today’s influencers. People that are on YouTube, celebrities on Twitch, and those who use Tiktok. These people make millions simply by speaking words in front of a camera and simply being themselves. I know some of this goes over your heads, not many of us use these social platforms nor do we want to really watch these people but for me, it’s a very interesting ministry to think about. I watch several of these major influencers on the internet and you know what the internet loves? Drama. One such influencer (and by the way, when I say influencer, I don’t use that term lightly, these people have built whole communities in their name) and their followers will start wars over words. Anyway, one such influencer has come out and publicly voiced his problems that come with being famous on social media. This person has almost 27 million followers and you can imagine the stress of entertaining and maintaining a high profile image with that many people. I’m not going to go over everything that was discussed but I found there is a trend amongst these influencers. It appears that most of this people who are successful online, who have made millions of followers and money, and at the end of it all, after working so hard for so many years, they feel, empty. This person who I keep bringing up struggles with identity, insecurities, trust, death of a parent, and most of all, hope all the while, with 20 milllion people watching.
This is not an evangelism message, this message is not catered to the influencers of today’s age, no this message is for everyone who is in ministry. We may not have the eyes of millions on us, but we do have the eyes of those around us. I’ve preached about integrity, the convictions we must live, and yes we do this to improve our spiritual wellbeing and to maintain our relationship with God but there will come a day when that spiritual wellbeing will be looked and scrutinized not only by those who we minister to but by God Himself at the Bemen seed. Today we will be looking into the book of 2 Corinthians. In the fourth chapter Paul writes about being in ministry and how a light, shines within him.
This is today’s proposition, the main statement, the main theme that today’s sermon is built around “Christians are to be a light in this dark world.”
