Introduction
Last time we were here in the book of Colossians, we explored Paul’s instruction to the believers in Colosse to mortify (put to death) their members. He named specific sins that they likely engaged in before coming to Christ and challenged them to no longer engage in these behaviors which provoked God’s wrath, and he reminded them that though they once walked and lived in them, they should not longer be a part of their life in Christ.
In these next few verses Paul deals with another grouping of particular attitudes which are common among unbelievers but ought not to be a part of the Christian’s life.
Paul encourages the believers in Colosse to put off the old man with his deeds so that they may then put on the new man.

Put off Old Man (Vs. 8-9)
The putting off of the old man is more than simply ceasing the sinful behaviors that once marked our lives, we must also deal with the wicked attitudes that characterized our lives before Christ.
