Read Psalm 22:1-15
Read Mark 10:17-31

What did Christ Pay? (admittedly not in this text)

Condescension - that is was wholly inappropriate (apart from grace) to become flesh
Obedience - He repeatedly said He was only about His father’s business
Submission - He never exalted Himself above the Father
Suffering - Like a sheep, he was silent
Death - substitutional & voluntary

What have you paid?

Mark 10:28 ESV
Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.”
Wealth? - offerings / donations
Loved ones? - friendships / family
Your opinions? - we need our minds renewed (Rom 2)

What will you not pay?

Mark 10:22 ESV
Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
Wealth? - Matt 6:21
Love to neighbor? -who is my neighbor (Mt22 / Mk12 / Lk10)
Your precious opinions? - well I think

What will be the cost?

Your Whole Life
Matthew 16:24–25 ESV
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Galatians 2:20 ESV
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Either Christ died to save you completely (to the uttermost) or else His death was not for you at all; there is no picking and choosing, or compartmentalizing your life.

What is the reward?

Homes & Family - a church home/family
Persecution - after being beaten...
Acts 5:41 ESV
Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.
Eternal Life
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Church family, as we observe Communion today, May it remind us of the great price paid for our lives, even into eternity; the forgiveness of our sins. May it also remind us of the grace that comes to us in our times of need because of Christ, especially as we seek to be closer to Him. May the Lord continue to unite us in Christ.
