THINGS WE SHOULD KNOW
2 PETER 3:9-14
INTRODUCTION- I remember taking a trip cross country last year to see my Mom in California.
1. Millions of people go on trips every year.
2. Every year millions of people are unprepared for these trips.
3. Let us think about things that would appease us:
a. Checking schedules.
b. Airport employees who promise things they have no control over.
c. Guarantees on where your bags will end up…
3. The Bible tells us of a trip all of us will make.
4. Are we prepared?
5. Have we heard any promises?
WE SHOULD KNOW…
I. THE LORD IS NOT SLACK WITH PROMISES (2 Peter 3:9).
A. We need to see His promises.
1.The Gospel would be preached to the whole world (Matthew 24:1-14).
2.That God’s word would endure forever (Luke 21:33)
3.That He would answer our prayers (John 14:12-14).
B. We need to believe His promises.
1.We need to believe we are never alone (Matthew 28:16-20).
2.We need to believe that those who are faith have a reward (John 14:1-3).
3.We need to believe that there is a coming judgement (John 5:16-30).
II. THE LORD IS NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH (2 Peter 3:9).
A. God sent Jesus so they all may be saved (John 3:16-17).
1.We need to know that Jesus was offered (Isaiah 53:5.
2.We need to know that Jesus was able (Hebrews 1:3).
B. But the reality is the most will not receive Him.
1.There were those who studied with Him (John 16:31).
2.There were those who were His family (John 7:5).
III. THE LORD WANTS ALL TO REPENT (2 Peter 3:9).
A. The Lord’s return will be a horrible sight to unbelievers.
1.Jesus’ warning should scare those who are in sin (Isaiah 59:2).
2.Only a few will heed Jesus’ warning (Matthew 7:14).
B. The Lord’s return will be a time of rejoicing for believers.
1.Jesus’ warning should build hope in believer (1 Thess. 2:13; 1 Timothy 4:10).
2.Jesus’ warning should give the believer confidence (Hebrews 11:1).
CONCLUSION- Do you know Jesus?
1. If you know Jesus, do you know His promises?
2. If you know them, are you prepared to meet Him?
