Story
I heard a story of a ship that was sinking in the middle of a storm, and the captain called out to the crew and said, "Does anyone here know how to pray?"
One man stepped forward and said, "Yes sir, I know how to pray."
The captain said, "Wonderful, you pray while the rest of us put on life jackets--we're one short."
Intro/Recap
The Better Plan - Unlike the Law, Christ Is the Better Plan for Salvation
The Better Sacrifice - That Better Plan requires Sacrifice
Forgiveness isn't given without sacrifice- Christ IS The Better Sacrifice

Better Picture (1–4)

Practice (1)
The sacrifice was repeated many times but could not save man from his sin ( John 3:1–8).
Problem (2).
If one sacrifice could cleanse from sin, then why sacrifice every year? (John 14:6).
Peril (3-4)
The sacrifice only reminded the people of their sins; it did not forgive them.
The blood of animals cannot cleanse man from sin (1 John 1:7).

Better Plan (5–10)

Sacrifice (5 )
Christ came into the world because the sacrifices could not forgive sin (Acts 4:12).
Symbols (6).
The sacrifices did not satisfy God. They did not cleanse man from sin (Rom. 10:13).
Surrender (7)
This death was foretold throughout the entire Old Testament.
we needed his obedience, because of our disobedience
Christ Himself said no one took his life, yet he gave it freely
Service (8-9).
Christ brought a new system to replace the old. This system was based on His blood, which would cleanse man from all sin. He saves even the worst sinners (Heb. 7:25).
Sanctification (10).
Through this new system we are cleansed from all sin.

Better Method (11–18)

Position (11–14).
The Old Testament priests made yearly sacrifices. Christ made only one.
After doing this He sat down at the right hand of God. He “sat down in the place of highest honor” (LB).
Method (15–18).
Covenant (15-16).
The new covenant sacrifice is no longer the blood of animals.
Christ’s blood bought us from the powers of sin (Acts 20:28).
Cleansing (17-18).
He not only forgives our sins (see Ps. 103:3)
There is no limit to how far He has removed our sins (Ps. 103:12 )
