Main: I want my students to understand what baptism is, why we do it, and how it connects us with God.

What is Baptism

Baptism is a practice in churches in the Bible and all over the world where Christians are dunked in water as an announcement of their faith in Jesus.

Why do we do it?

We follow the example of Jesus
Jesus did it (Mark 1:9), why should we avoid it?
Baptism symbolically aligns us with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection: 1 Peter 3:18-21
Go under (death), held under (burial), raised to water (resurrection)
It also symbolizes that we are washed clean from our sin and defined entirely by Christ’s work on the cross
NOT SALVIFIC, BUT SYMBOLIC

How it connects us with God

We make the public declaration that we’re putting al of our hope in Jesus.
Through baptism, we acknowledge publically that we need a Saviour, and that the only one who can save us is the One who died on the cross. Colossians 2:22
Questions
