I. Who is in God’s Family vs. 31-35

A. Jesus’ family wanted to take Him away, so they could silence Him. But they could not get through the crowd to Him.
B. Jesus’ statement was incredibly shocking to His Jewish audience. They put family above everything! We do the same today. However that can be as dangerous, as it is noble.
C. If we idolize our family, putting them, before God and His Word, then we are worshipping our family, more than Jesus. We do this in many ways. We will look at 4 of them:
When we are more loyal to a family member’s opinion than Scripture, and what is right.
When our children decide what is right and wrong. (Drinking, homosexuality ex)
When our identity is in our spouse, and/or children over or instead of Jesus.
When our kids’ schedules dictate everything, instead of biblical commands.
D. Our forever family, isn’t racial, economic, or denominational. (Persecution and needing a new family ex)
1 Peter 2:9–10 NASB95
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

II. What is God’s Will? vs. 35

A. Most people think that God’s will is living by a bunch of religious rules, but it is very simple.
Micah 6:6–8 NASB95
With what shall I come to the Lord And bow myself before the God on high? Shall I come to Him with burnt offerings, With yearling calves? Does the Lord take delight in thousands of rams, In ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my firstborn for my rebellious acts, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?
B. To do justice, is to live in such a way, that you’re not playing favorites. You don’t live in a Christian bubble or click. You are fair, you do what’s right, and love everybody.
C. Love kindness, is mercy. You do good for God’s sake, and you’re full of mercy, not hate. If you disagree, you disagree, you don’t live to win an argument, you live to know Jesus and make Him known. You forgive.
2 Thessalonians 3:11–13 NASB95
For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread. But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.
D. Walk humbly with Yahweh. It’s not about rules, it’s about relationship. It’s not your sacrifice, but His sacrifice. It’s not about your way, but His wisdom and will. It is high time that Christians come to be known by love, not what we’re against!
John 13:35 NASB95
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

III. What Does This Look Like?: Acts 2:43-47

A. We are in awe of God, instead of ourselves and ability.
B. We are united.
John 17:22–23 NASB95
“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
C. We meet each other’s needs.
D. We like being together.
E. We are growing in Christ and discipling others.
F. People are being saved.
G. We love and act like a family should.
