Why should we know and understand the Greek word, “Logos?”

Because it is God who is communicating His Logos

God is sending us
Messages
Sayings
Statements
An Account
A Word
A Gospel
A Matter
A Report
That we might do something with it...

Because it is God sending His Message/Content

That communication has powerful content
Words; things; sayings that can give us life
Not life in the ordinary sense
but life in the divine and everlasting sense
we must pay attention to the content
That content is Good News
It’s a message of deliverance
Content that can set you free
When we sit in our pews and miss the meaning of God’s communication we miss out on the content
This is why the Bible teaches...
2 Timothy 2:14–15 ESV
14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Because the Son is the Logos

Jesus is the exact representation of God
what better message could we have?
Jesus and His life are our example
Hebrews 1:3 ESV
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 14:9–10 ESV
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

Rhema <rhema>

appears 66 x’s
Mark 14:72 A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word <rhema> that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And when he thought about it, he wept.
Luke 3:2 while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word <rhema> of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness
John 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words <rhema> that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
Acts 11:14 who will tell you words <rhema> by which you and all your household will be saved.
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words <rhema> that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
From the above examples, we can see a distinction:
Logos is a word (spoken/written) given generally
while Rhema <rhema> is a word (spoken/written) given specifically.
