Text - Joshua 10.40-43; Hebrews 10.12-13
40 So Joshua conquered all the land: the mountain country and the South and the lowland and the wilderness slopes, and all their kings; he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded.
41 And Joshua conquered them from Kadesh Barnea as far as Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even as far as Gibeon.
42 All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.
43 Then Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp at Gilgal.
12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.
Title - The Mighty Conqueror
Background
Background
The world has its own great conquerors
God has His own conquerors
the saints of old
the saints in the NT church
Jesus the Mighty Conqueror
WMB preached on the same subject 6 times during his ministry
inspired by the song “The Unveiled Christ”
“lo He is the mighty conqueror since He rent the veil in two...”
In the Bible, the words “conquer” and “overcome” are the same
Grk. NIKAO
the saints are called “more than conquerors”
Grk. HYPERNIKAO, overwhelmingly victorious; beyond the victors (of the land)
If we are called conquerors -
what have we overcome? What did we conquer in this life?
How do we overcome?
Joshua’s and Jesus’ ministries have similarities
both names mean the same (Jahweh is salvation)
both entered in their ministries by way of the Jordan river
both lead a group of 12s
The Purpose of the Conquest
The Purpose of the Conquest
Joshua’s conquest
Joshua’s conquest
Why was Joshua appointed to lead Israel after Moses?
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:
2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.
1.) The first purpose of conquest was to bring to fulfillment the promise God made to Israel’s forefathers
To claim and possess the land promised to Abraham
To possess the land that was already given
Genesis 15.18 - “I have given this land to your children...”
Jesus’s conquest
Jesus’s conquest
Jesus’ coming was in every way a conquest!
He was going to conquer the world for God
He was going to claim things that have been given/appointed to Him
2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
Jesus was taking only what belongs to Him in the first place
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Israel was conquering only because God has given her a “conquering leader” - Joshua
The Church/Saints today are conquering only because we have been given a mighty conqueror - Jesus Christ!
The second objective separates Jesus from Joshua
2.) The second purpose is to bring “all things” back into subjection to God’s authority and rule.
24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.
25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.
Rebellion from God’s authority and rule did not start in Eden, but in the heavens.
some angels broke away from their God appointed place - Jude 6
Rebellion continued in the human family
Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command
The Act of Conquest
The Act of Conquest
How must the conquest be executed?
Joshua had to “actually” enter the land!
3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.
Joshua had to put his feet on the very land of Canaan.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.
5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
Joshua must place the soles of his feet upon every part of the Land - the whole length and width - in order to conquer it!
God said the same thing to Abraham
14 And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward;
15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.
16 And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.
17 Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”
18 Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.
Jesus had to step into the “all things” that God has given/appointed for His inheritance in order to calim them!
He walked the earth
5 For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels.
6 But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him?
7 You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands.
8 You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
He went through the whole land of Israel - like Joshua
he entered by way of the Jordan River
he preached the gospel from Judea (south) to Galilee (north)
Notice - “a little” lower than the angels
9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
9 But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for every one.
it means - he did not start his exstence on earth
it means - this is temporary
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
manifested - denotes something that is not seen was made visible
He walked the earth to personally experince how th powers of the enemy works and to conquer them and to destroy them.
17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
He walked the halls of death and hades - to claim His lordship over the dead
24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.
8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”
9 (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
He stepped into glory - to claim His place on the very Throne of God
10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
Note - John’s experience in his vision of the 7 seals
2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”
3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.
4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.
The saints/church must also step over every part of God’s promise in order to become conquerors”!
What is our promised land today? the Holy Spirit
Jesus pointed His disciples to “promise of the Father”
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
[read quotes]
Now, we’re going to talk about a journey, how that God brought His people out of Egypt into the promised land, a perfect type of leaving sin, coming into the Spirit land. Now, there’s three stages of this journey; First, Israel in Egypt, Israel in the journey, Israel in Palestine, which is a perfect type of justification by faith, coming out; sanctification as it passed through the Blood, the baptism of the Holy Ghost. It’s perfect, the stages of the Church. That is where the Church is staged now.
17 Now, the thing I want you to notice. They come out under Martin Luther. They were sanctified under John Wesley, filled with the Holy Ghost under Pentecost. Now we’re in the promised land here, just slaying Philistines and having a wonderful time, taking over. Here’s a little place up here said, “That whatsoever things you ask in My Name it shall be done.”
Just demons, just standing all around there, but we’re going right in with the sword of God and cutting them out, taking over. It’s ours. God gave it to us. Said, “There’s the land; I give it to you; go on, possess it.” So here we’ve been on our journey, now we’ve arrived.
18 Now, a lot of people apply Canaan, to being over in the promise land, to being the type of heaven. No, it couldn’t type heaven. It’s the stages of the journey of the Church. They had wars and everything over in Canaan. There’s no wars in heaven, you know. So they had dying, and murders, and everything else. So they didn’t have that in heaven. It’s the type of the Holy Spirit.
53-1115A - Speak To The Rock
God gives you the opportunity tonight. There’s one thing lays between you and the promised Land. What is the promised Land? The Holy Ghost. What laid between Joshua and the promised land was the Jordan. Exactly right.
114 Moses, being a type of Christ, led the children up to the promised land, then Moses did not take the children in the promised land. Joshua took the people in and divided up the land. Jesus paid the price, led them up to the Holy Spirit. God sent the Holy Spirit down and He positionally put the church in order, each man, filling him with the Presence of His Being. You see what I mean? All in Christ Jesus, how God predestinated this to the calling of this Gospel!
60-0522E - Adoption #4
How do we walk in our promised land?
We enter “our” promised land when we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit
note - the baptism of Holy Spirit is also a type of the promised land (WMB)
We walk the breadth of our promised land when we walk in the Spirit
We live and abide in our promised land when we live according to the Spirit and enjoy themany blessings that come with the Holy Spirit!
The Church/Saints must go through every part of this promised land in order to possess it!
valleys, creeks, rivers, mountains; hills; the eastern sea; sea of galilee;
from the deepest (dead sea) to the highest (Hermon)
The Outcome of the Conquest
The Outcome of the Conquest
Joshua and Israel came out VICTORS!
The evidences -
31 kings killed and their kingdoms destroyed and burned down - Joshua 13
Israel was settled in the lands of their choices
Jesus comes out the MIGHTY CONQUEROR!
Jesus on the right hand of majesty -
13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.
JESUS IS LORD OF THE DEAD AND THE LIVING
9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
The saints of God are coming “more than conquerors”!
because of Him who loved us
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
because the greater is in us
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Jesus has done all the “hard works” for us!
He died on the cross
He was made a curse for us
He walked the halls of hades for us
Conclusion
Conclusion

Are you placing your feet in the right place?
Place your feet on the right place -
in the promises of God
in tune with the Holy Spirit
in the service of God
15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Place your feet in the path prepared by the mighty conqueror - Jesus Christ!
Is there anything that can hold back God’s promises to you? -NOTHING!
only our unbelief, fear, timidity
