A place for assistance or security.

Eschatology: Terms and Vocabulary

Progressive Revelation - The message of the Bible unfolds from Genesis to Revelation. This is called progressive revelation. God did not reveal everything at once, so His revelation was not complete and final until the last book was written.

Typology - the study of and interpretation of types and symbols, especially in the Bible. Examples can be a person such as Adam or Melchizedek., Events such as the flood, Institutions such as Passover or service of the Tabernacle.

Example: Revelation 4:1. Looking upward, he wrote, After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.”

Seen by the Whole World

Revelation 11:9 NKJV

9 Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves.

"Days" to show the shortness of the time. "Three and a half" to indicate tribulation.

In Bible times, because of heat and sanitation, people were often buried within twenty-four hours.

Some were buried in caves or tombs, making it possible for friends and relatives to go back and anoint the body over the next few days.

Some were buried with a bell tied around their finger that would ring if they moved (saved by the bell).

Family often waited a minimum of three days before declaring someone dead.

This may be why Jesus waited until the fourth day to raise his friend Lazarus (John 11:17).

After three days, Lazarus was officially dead, and no one would question it.

The dead bodies of the Two Witnesses will lie in the street three and a half days.

By Jewish standards they will be officially dead. No one will accept their remains.

Multitudes from every people, tribe, and nation will see their corpses and refuse them burial. (Television, Internet, Satellite)

John Hagee - Prophecy states that the whole world will, at the same time, be able to see the two witnesses in the streets of Jerusalem. My father’s generation could not explain that. How could the whole world see two dead men lying in the streets of Jerusalem at one time? It was a mystery. Then came television, followed by international satellites, the Internet, and wireless communication.

Anti-Christmas

Revelation 11:10 NKJV

10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

When Jesus was born, wise men* traveled from the East to see him.

When they arrived, they fell down and worshiped him with great joy, and presented him with extravagant gifts.

We, too, celebrate the birth of Jesus by worshiping him and exchanging gifts at Christmas.

When the bodies of the two witnesses are lying in the street, the inhabitants of the earth will gloat.

They will be proud of their Antichrist, proud they are following him, and proud of his great power because no one else could harm the two witnesses.

They will praise his victory, worship him, and exchange gifts.

The celebration will be like an Antichrist Christmas. Call it the first “Anti-Christmas.”

Some people just refuse to understand that God is going to win.

Let There Be Life

Revelation 11:11 NKJV

11 Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.

This incredible scene is beyond human comprehension: The two witnesses will be killed.

Television cameras (or something similar) will broadcast pictures of their bodies lying in the street around the world.

No one will move them. The cameras will remain focused on the corpses while the whole world begins to celebrate.

Food will probably be scarce, but parties will abound.

Festivities will continue for three days or more. Then God will suddenly step in.

He will do what he did when he created Adam (Genesis 2:7).

He will breathe life into the two witnesses, causing them to move. The partying will stop; the revelry will end.

The whole world will watch in terror as the two witnesses stand to their feet.

J. Vernon McGee - While the world is celebrating in jubilation the death of these witnesses and while the television cameras are focused upon them, the witnesses will stand on their feet. All of the networks will regret that they had their cameras pointed to (the witnesses), because (the networks) will not really want to give the news as it is.

Believe What You See

Revelation 11:12 NKJV

12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.

Following the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, skeptics tried to explain away his resurrection by blaming his disciples for carrying out an elaborate hoax.

However, the world will not be able to claim a hoax when the two witnesses rise from the dead and disappear into heaven.

Everyone will know they died because their bodies will lie in the street for three and a half days.

Everyone will also know the witnesses were raised from the dead when they stand up. Then, while some are wondering what to do, a great voice from heaven will call the two witnesses to heaven.

God will reenact the rapture of the church.

This will stand as a vivid reminder of the millions who disappeared when the church was called out. The world will stand in awe of Almighty God.

None of their enemies will be able to harm them as they disappear into heaven in a cloud.

They will only be able to look on in amazement.

When Jesus ascended* into heaven, many did not believe*.

When the Church is raptured, the world will not believe.

What excuses will the people have from the harsh reality of the truth.

Their Retribution

Revelation 11:13 NKJV

13 In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Jerusalem will be shaken with a great earthquake. In its wake one tenth of the city will crumble to the ground and 7,000 people will lay dead.

sadly there will be no miraculous Resurrection

A remnant will believe And give glory to God in heaven

As we close we are reminded that God’s judgment isn’t over

Revelation 11:14 NKJV

14 The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly.

I’m glad to know that I am saved.I’m confident In the blood of Jesus to provide my redemption

Our world grows darker each day, but the wickedness we see doesn’t compare to what will come upon the earth in Tribulation. Do you know for sure that you’ve been saved? Was there a definite time in your past that you saw your need of salvation, realizing you were lost, and called on the Lord to save your soul?

If not you can be saved today. Jesus died for you and He doesn’t want you to face eternal judgment and condemnation. Won’t you come while there is still time?
