In our lead-up to Easter this year, we will be considering some of the different players involved in Jesus' trial and execution, and how we might see ourselves in their attitudes and actions. After all, we are all active participants in Jesus' death – accessories to his murder.
So, we begin with the 'judges of Jesus' – those who convict him and condemn him to his fate – the religious leaders, Pilate, Herod and the crowd. Even today this trial continues, as Jesus is continuously judged by sinners like us. And yet, Jesus humbly submits to this hypocritical human judgment AND takes the righteous judgment of God on our behalf, all so he can enact true justice without our condemnation.
