Summary: This sermon helps Christians realize the importance of remembering their testimonies.
Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:32-17:38
Remembering our tests is critical for success.
Good morning church, who is ready to be refreshed? Today we sit here and some of us have trouble and giants in our life that scare the life out of us. We feel paralyzed, hopeless and we have already accepted defeat but we must remember the test of our life. It has been said how can you have a testimony without having a test.
In John 16-33 Jesus tell his disciples that we will have trouble/ Giants in this world, “ I have told u theses things, so that you may have peace, in this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world.
Remember Your Testimony 1 Samuel 17: 20 – 37- David and Goliath the entire Israeli army was afraid to fight this giant. Goliath was great warrior and no one would accept his challenge. Goliath boasted and mocked God and His army. David was a young man, to small to fight. His father sent him to the battle to take food to his brothers. When David arrived he was shocked to find the army of the almighty God afraid. Even though he was not numbered among the soldiers, he knew that something had to be done. David came boldly to king Saul and requesting permission to fight the giant. David had three things that the others did not! 1. He was willing 2. He had faith in God 3. He had a testimony 1. He was willing · in verse 26; David questioned the army, who is this Giant to defy God? He was willing to question those in charge regarding their lack of faith and progress. · He was willing to go before King Saul and accept the challenge. · He was willing to walk onto the battle field. Sometimes it’s easy to serve God in church, around other Christians. The ultimate challenge is walking onto the battle field, in our everyday lives and standing for God. 2.He Had Faith in God · David not only believed that God could deliver him, He believed That God would! · He always looked to God’s Greatness, He never even considered the enemy.
In romans we see that Abraham is standing on his faith and believing that God would fulfill his promise to him Rom 4:19-21, “ (19)-And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: (20)-He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; (21)-And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” David did not consider the circumstances; He refused to be discouraged by the enemy or his brothers. · His brothers questioned him! Why are you here? · Saul questioned his ability? · He was ridiculed by goliath in all these things, David remained faithful and focused. 3. He remembered his testimony! David gave his testimony, he said, One day a lion and bear came into my Dad’s flock and took a lamb. I went after the lamb and killed both the lion and the bear. And this giant that defies the army of God, shall be as one of them! Closing: We need to remember the things that God has done for us in the past to overcome the battles that we face in the present.
Isaiah 41-10 - so do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your god. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
We need to confess our victories to the world and to other Christians and realize that God will give us victory again.
Rev 12:11, “ 11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
