Why is all sin the same? - Romans 6:23 teaches us that the wages of all sin is death. Certainly all sin does not have the same repercussions on earth. Such as murder would not be treated the same as stealing a pack of gum. Sin is the same in the way that all sin is forgiven by Christ. The standards by which sin is judged by Christ is not the same as on earth because Christ thinks eternally and not temporarily. Meaning our sin is paid by our death. Genesis 3:14-19

Who is the great prostitute - Rev 17:18 specifies that the great prostitute is the great city. This great city is Rome which ruled with greed, idolatry, and immorality. Chapter 17 mentions the demise of the great city and chapter 28 says in what way the demise came.
