Conditions at the Crucifixion
Conditions at the Crucifixion
1 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.
4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
1. Conspiracy
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
conspiracy...
when I think of conspiracy, I think of a national radio host of year past -
Art Bell was a prominent talk show host of the “Coast to Coast am” show...
he dealt in the paranormal, in the unbelievable and conspiracy… -
His show would run from midnight to 4 am…, and when I was running my shop - turning wrenches - sometimes I would listen to the show - listen to some of the crazies that would call in...
there were a lot of conspiriacy theory’s being floated about - and all the guests were experts… they had the competency and qualifications to validate the craziness they were about to espouse to whoever might be tied in
The landscape of the crucifixion was a group of people who had conspired to kill the Savior...
This was not some conspiracy of what if’s - this was real people conspiring against a real person to kill him...

mocking -
the conspiracy to negate and invalidate the Savior is still going on today -
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
Pilate - Governor of Judea
Herod - Ruler of Galilee
Jesus was a person of interest - only because of the miracles he Had worked -
Both were dismissive
Both were evasive
Neither wanted t deal with this jesus

17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
They chose:
the evil over the good
the unrighteous over the righteous
the unholy over the holy
injustice over justice...

4. Callousness
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
Though we find people following the Lord - and women lamenting his crucifixion in vs 27, we see an overwhelming callousness of the events...
Jesus - who healed
Jesus - who loved
Jesus - who gave
Jesus - who loved
Jesus - who called...
is now no longer regarded as someone worth knowing
He is no longer worth seeking out
He is no longer worth following...
They were once sensitive as they listened to his teaching
they were once challenged, motivated, activated to be and to do… not so much now...
Illustration:
working at McD’s
$3.35 an hour...
Working the grill -
2 huge grills - side by side - probably 5-6’ wide each...
10/1 grill you could get around a 100 pcs of meat on it at a time...
you watch someone who knows how to work a grill and work that much meat at one time and it’s pretty impressive...
The guy I trained under was good...
Grab 2 stacks of meat - about 5 burgers in each hand...
slam them down on the grill / grab another handfull and keep going...
2- rows of 10 / slap the timer and grab some more meat / slap the next button
go back to the 1st row - sear the meat / slap the timer
grab meat - 2 more rows
go back to the 2nd row - sear meat / slap timer
go back to 1st row - turn meat
go back to 3rd row - sear meat
grab 2 more handfulls of meat
working - and you have someone else prepping your hamburgers… pull 2 at a time - drop them on the buns....
it was hot / it was intense and it was a challenge… it was great...
but the 1st time it was my turn, I thought I was ready to go… I grabbed the stacks of meat- went to slap them on the grill - just like my trainer did - and I thought I was going to scream like a little girl...
you put that meat on the grill - moving that fast, there is no way to do it without hitting your fingertips on the grill - that grill - 425 degree’s - lit me up...
all 4 fingers on both hands - the tips were burned...
my trainer just laughed and told me to keep going...
the first few weeks, my fingers were tore up… they liked me on the grill, and that was where I stayed a lot...
but after awhile - my finger tips were seared / calloused - they lost their sensitivity...
when the crucifixion was taking place - for the most part - there was a calloused attitude...

5. Caution
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
when we look at these believers who had scattered, Let’s not be too hard on them...
We do not know what we would have done - but when we see the caution - we see what motivated it...
fear...
Fear is not supposed to be what controls us as believers -
Fear of man
fear of circumstances
fear of the unknown situations...
Fear is a snare -
Fear and faith are enemies...
Caution -
there is wisdom in caution -
12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple pass on, and are punished.
but when caution is crippling - to where we do not follow our faith - we are not being cautious, we are being cowardly...
Faith - fear… a very real diametric
Are we moving forward in our faith???
Are we allowing the Spirit of God to lead, guide, direct?
Or are we crippled by caution that is causing us to retreat -
