Today let’s talk about the Cross
Do we really know what happened before the cross?
2. What happened on the way to the cross?
3. What happened at the cross?
4. What happened after the cross?
5. What is happening now,as a result of the cross?

Let’s see what happened before the cross.

READ LUKE 22:15-18.
The night before he died. jesus and his disciples celebrated Passover in the upper room of a residents.
Now, before they began supper, Jesus showed his love for his disciples, by kneeling down and washing there feet.
This task is usually reserved for the low servants.
Can i just show you how much love Jesus had?
Jesus had so much love, that this act of service included Judas Iscariot.
Now i gotta tell you today, THAT’S LOVE.
When they were finished, Jesus and his disciples moved to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent time in prayer. anticipating the events that would soon take place.
His disciples slept, even though Jesus asked them to stay awake and pray.
If we can be transparent, how many time have we slept, when we know we should have been in prayer?
While they were in the garden, Judas returned with a crowd and betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
Jesus was then arrested, accused of blasphemy, and put on trial.
Can i preach right here?
The next hours were agonizing.
You think you got it bad?
You think you are having a bad day?
You broke, and got no money, you think you got it bad?
Your kid ain’t acting right, you think you got it bad?
Your wife or your husband won’t do what you want them to do, and you think your having a bad day?
WELL
Beginning before 6:00 am, Jesus was subjected to harsh interrogation.
He was beaten, spit on, mocked, and brutally whipped, and finally convicted and made to carry his cross to his own crucifixion.
Now, that’s having a bad day.
He was nailed by his hands or wrist, and feet to the cross and left hanging for hours before he died.

At the cross.

But before Jesus died at the cross, there were some other things that happened.
LET’S READ MATTHEW 27:41-52.
At the cross, even the chief priests mocked Jesus.
At the cross, The scribes and elders, said, He saved others, why can’t he save himself.
At the cross they said, if he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
How many people need Jesus to do something before they believe?
Sometimes Jesus will do a miracle in our life, and we still don’t believe.
At the cross, about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out, My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?
At the cross, they ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
At the cross, they said, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
This was at the cross, brothers and sisters.
At the cross, Jesus, when he cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
At the cross, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent.
This is what was happening at the cross.
The bible says, the graves opened; and the many bodies of the saints which slept arose.
Jesus will make you a believer.
Think back over your life.
What made you believe?
What happened in your life to really make you a believer?
Who did Jesus put in your life to make you believe?
Who did Jesus take out of your life to make you believe?
If you are not saved right now, what will it take, to make you believe?
Some of us were like these centurions.
The bible says, Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, truly this was the Son of God.
YES SAINTS, this was at the cross.

What is happening as a result of the cross?

The cross has changed everything.
The cross of Christ is the center of salvation.
In Galatians 6:14, the bible says, But God forbid that i should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and i unto the world.
What Paul is saying is, he boast only in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through which the world has been crucified to me, and i to the world.
He is using one thing (a large, wooden object used for executions) to refer to to something else.
The death of Jesus and its effect in reconciling us to God.
When we sing songs about the wooden object itself, we are, or should be well aware that what we cherish is not just “The old rugged cross”
But the cross meaning Christ crucified.
The finished work of Christ, was done on that old rugged cross.
Salvation, was on the cross.
Love was on the cross.
repentance, was on the cross.
Peace, was on the cross.
Everything we needed, or could ever need, was on the cross.

Can i take a minute to close right here?

Everything we talked about today is something that had to be done.
Jesus had to have a last supper with his disciples. the key word LAST.
That’s love
Jesus had to show love to all the people that wanted to kill and destroy him.
That’s love.
Jesus had to be whipped and spit on while on his way to the cross.
That’s LOVE
Jesus paid the price for the sins of the world with his blood.
All those sins we try to hide from people, Jesus knows, and will fix it.
it was paid for by the blood.
The marriage's that are in shambles, Jesus paid for it and it can be fixed.
Anything. you think is keeping you from salvation, Jesus paid for it and it can be fixed.
Relationships with your father, mother, sister or brother can be fixed. Jesus paid for it, so it can be fixed.
We need to stop worrying about what Jesus has not done in our lives yet, and look at all the things he has already paid for with his blood.
