Power, there are many ways to describe that word. We notices power even by simply turning on the light. we especially notices when the lights don’t work. We often think, “there must be a power-outage.” but power can be defined in may ways. If you do a google search on the word you will find this, according to dictionary.com

There are many powerful things in our world today.
What is the most powerful thing you have ever had at your fingertips?
How much do you respect those things?
This lesson takes a step back from the more academic study of the Bible to consider its power in our lives. In reality, we could all say that the Bible is the most powerful thing we have had at our fingertips.
Super Powers
Every super hero has a different power and with that power every hero has a symbol that represents their abilities.
Everyone take a pen and paper and draw out what your super hero symbol might be.
Here are a few examples you might pull from.
How would you use your super powers?
How do you think your life would be different if you had such a power all the time?
Tonight, consider the power of God’s Word. In a way the Bible’s power is like having a super hero like weapon always at our disposal.
Dr. James Sewell used to say to his Bible college students, “Teachers graduate their mistakes, Doctors bury theirs, and we send ours to hell.”
He was speaking of the great responsibility we have as Christians to carry the message of the Bible to the world. Just like the super hero has to save those in physical trouble, so we have an even greater responsibility to take God’s powerful Word to the world. Because our mistakes last eternity.
When one want to have confidence in God’s Word, you must understand that it starts and ends with understanding its power.

Tonight we are coming to look what the power of God’s Word is for.
The Power of God for Salvation
The Power of God for Salvation
In order for us to understand the Power of God for salvation, we must first understand that we are in need of saving.
The Bible’s power addresses humanity’s basic need for Salvation. Romans 1, Paul’s discourse on Salvation sets the court case for us. let’s take a look.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Man’s Kryptonite
Man’s Kryptonite
Man’s Kryptonite is our great down fall. And as we will see in a moment man has deliberately denied God. Man’s problem is sin.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 1 presents the case for humanity’s guilt before God. It determines that every person is a sinner in need of God’s grace and that everyone who rejects God’s grace is condemned by God and subject to His wrath.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We have all sinned and because of that sin we come short of God’s glory.
Paul shows us in Romans 1 a couple different reasons God’s wrath falls on the sinner.
We Reject God’s Position
We Reject God’s Position
God’s wrath falls on the sinner because they deliberately deny God as he has revealed Himself in creation. Humanity should know there is a God because there has to be a Creator. Man should also recognize the power of the Creator.
Even those that say there is no God is “without excuse.”
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Everyone should readily recognize that there must be a creator who is infinitely powerful and wise. He must be far above humanity.
Knowing about God does not, by itself save anyone, The Bible teaches that there is not other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Those who do not believe in Christ are condemned because they have not believed.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Salvation depends upon knowing and trusting in Jesus Christ.
We Reject God’s Plan
We Reject God’s Plan
Another reason for God’s wrath is that people have a knowledge of God but do not respond properly to it.
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
when people reject God’s position, they will also reject His plan. and they become vain in their imaginations (1:21). meaning their reasoning becomes pointless.
Have you ever tired to talk to someone who has there is no God and truly believes there isn’t?
They are hard people to reach because their hearts are darkened.
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
So what is God’s plan?
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
God’s plan was for the world to know the gospel of Christ , to believe in Him, and to turn from their sins to Him.
But the foolish man who’s heart is darkened has rejected Him.
Where is the hope?
The Word’s Power
The Word’s Power
Paul’s description of humanity is rather grim. it is a wonder anyone ever responds to the gospel. Yet that is the beautiful turn in the story of God’s love. humanity is lost and without any desire or power to come to God for salvation. But God’s Word brings the power to change their hearts and minds so they might see their need for a Savoiur and respond. That is amazing, transforming power.
The Bible is at its core the story of the unfolding of the gospel. to consider the power of the gospel, then, it to consider the power of the Word of God. As the gospel is shared from God’s Word, God, then exercises its power to save those who are powerless to save themselves. God’s power is effective for everyone who believes in His Son for Salvation.
The Power of God for Sanctification
The Power of God for Sanctification
God’s Word is essential for believers who want to grow in the Lord. Spiritual growth cannot happen apart from God’s Word.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The writer here described the Word of God. It is quick or alive. it is powerful, unlike the timid fear of people. it is more incisive than any sword designed by men, because it can penetrate into even the deepest parts of a person.
Even Christians can device themselves into disobeying God’s Word. They may rationalize their sinful choices, but They cannot fool God. No one can avoid His searching gaze.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
While the Bible exposes out sins and shines the light on God’s standard of holiness, it also provides us with victory over temptations to violate that standard.
