Sayings of Jesus from the Cross 7
Notes
Transcript
Even though, we were not physically there, when Jesus died on the cross, our sins were there. They were atoned for, each and every one of them. One of the things Satan loves to do is to whisper in our ears that we’re not really forgiven. That God doesn’t really love us. That we’ll never, ever measure up to God.
It is true, we will never measure up, but love doesn’t work that way. When you love someone, truly love someone, that love is unconditional on what that someone does. Whatever they do, good or bad, love won’t change. 1 Corinthians 13 speaks over Satan’s words, drowning them out, and tells us that God’s love keeps no record of wrongs. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
This is the love, the sustaining love of the Father for the Son. Though Jesus was acutely aware that he’d been forsaken by the Father, nevertheless, he knew he was loved by the Father perfectly, eternally. In total trust, Jesus committed himself to the Father’s love, and committed his spirit into the Father’s hands.
Look! The Father’s hands are held out to you. Into them commit your spirit, give yourself fully and completely to the Father. In his hands you will find everything you are truly looking for. In Him you will find true life, true love, true joy.
Our prayer is to sing together My Jesus I Love Thee, verses 1-3. Sing them, mean them, reflect on them the rest of this Good Friday. Amen.
