Luke Chapter 9 -
Jesus just fed over 5,000 people.....
You would consider this a success!
Something hit me....
Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
As he was praying alone…
The Power of Solitude and Silence
Jesus withdrew from people
daily life activities, and the demands of his ministry to be alone with the Father and pray.
Solitude: the state or situation of being alone.
Silence: complete absence of sound. / The fact or state of abstaining from speech.
Jesus’ solitude and silence is a major theme in the Gospels.
His ongoing, intimate relationship with his father was the source of his compassion, wisdom, and power that we see on every page of the Gospels.
It’s how he began his ministry.
It’s how he made important decisions.
It’s how he dealt with the constant demands of his ministry
How he cared for his soul (Mind/Will/Emotions).
It’s how he taught his disciples.
It’s how he prepared for important ministry events.
It’s how he prepared for his death on the cross.
It’s how he dealt with troubling emotions like grief. - Let’s look at this…
Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus.
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.
And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
Grieved: to grieve v. — to cause to feel sorrow.
Think about this… - Jesus is taking a moment to feel sorrow over the evil connected t0 his creation....
John died a terrible death from evil hearts!

There is a power in solitude and silence…
creating a time where is just you and God....
You are not a superhero....
“The disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
William Barclay,
This is one of the most crucial moments in the life of Jesus.
He asked this question when he was already turning his face to go to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51).
He well knew what awaited him there, and the answer to his question was of supreme importance.
He knew that he was going to a cross to die; he wanted to know before he went, if there was anyone who had really discovered who he was
Jesus said.... Who do the crowds say that I am?
What’s the word of the street about me?
What are the people you’re connected to saying????
This is a powerful question! The people your connected to has a perception about me?
Remember your perception will determine your behavior.
And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.”
Now be honest:
They said he had a demon (John 7:20).
They said he violated the sabbath (Matthew 12:2).
They said he was a Samaritan (John 8:48).
They referred to him as a deceiver (Matthew 27:63).
They accused him of friendship with publicans and sinners (Luke 15:2).
They said that no prophet could come out of Galilee (John 7:52).
They accused him of leading the multitude astray (John 7:12).
They said that since Elijah had not risen from the dead, it was impossible for Jesus to be the Christ (Mark 9:11).
They said he had an unclean spirit (Mark 3:30).
They said, "He is beside himself' (Mark 3:21).
They said he transgressed the tradition of the elders (Matthew 15:2).
They said, "This man is not from God" (John 9:16).
They said he forbade to give tribute to Caesar (Luke 23:2).
They said that he made himself a king (Luke 23:2).
They said he was an evildoer (John 18:30).
This is why it’s important that people you are connected to have the right perspective of Jesus…
If we are going through a storm.... I need to know that we have a good understanding of who’s taking us through the storm!
Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
But who do you say that I am?
This is the question.... That still stands today.
Who is Jesus to you?
Is He someone that I depend on when it’s convenient?
Is He someone that I know about but don’t trust?
Is my perspective about him a seasonal lover....
Is He like a side-chick?
Do I see Him as dependable?
Reliable?
My Foundation
My Rock
My Peace
My Confidence
My Security
My definition of how my image should be!
Your trust level is based on this question!
“And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
Christ: The Messiah of God / The Anointed of God / The Messiah Sent From God
It was a spiritual revelation…
And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
This means through a spiritual relationship with can also declare this relationship
