Easter Season
Not about bunnies, eggs, chocolate
About something bigger
The death and resurrection of Jesus
Two weeks on Easter
The death of Jesus
The resurrection of Jesus
Body
Not a lot of teaching
Let the Bible speak for itself
Read an account of the events leading up to the death of Jesus and the crucifixion itself
Its one thing to hear “Jesus died for you”, its another thing to read about the gruesome story for yourself
As you read in your small groups, be thinking about two questions
What happened?
What are the events that happened in what you read
What did you notice?
Things that stuck out to you, what was interesting, what did you not understand, etc.
Why does the death of Jesus matter?
Without it, we don’t have the resurrection
Next week’s lesson, but it is the central thing of Christianity
We believe that Jesus’ death is how he frees us from the penalty of death that our sin has earned us
In Jesus’ death he has paid the penalty of death and sin for us
OT sacrifice laws- blood of an animal could be substituted for my own blood
In Jesus’ death, he died and took on the penalty for all of humanity
In an incredible act of love, God pours out his wrath and judgement upon Jesus instead of you and me
It shows us the depth of God’s love
He doesn’t need us, there is nothing we can offer God that he cannot get without us.
Yet, he still died for us
Why? Because he love us
