Craig Blomberg: “‘Lead us not into temptation’ does not imply “don’t bring us to the place of temptation” or “don’t allow us to be tempted.” Nor does the clause imply “don’t tempt us” because God has promised never to do that anyway (Jas 1:13). Rather, in light of the probable Aramaic underlying Jesus’ prayer, these words seem best taken as “don’t let us succumb to temptation” (cf. Mark 14:38).
Temptation: Who tempts us?
Martin Luther said, “The Christian in his struggle of obedience has many obstacles to overcome, that basically we are involved in warfare that takes place not on one front or two fronts, but on three fronts…and that he TRIAD of enemies that confront the Christian are the world, the flesh and the devil. Though they are distinguishable they are intimately related, one to the other.”
The term world is used in the NT to refer to fallen sphere of this planet to a kind of standpoint or perspective that is anti-God.
