Isaiah 52:13, through 53:12
Switch from working through John and the High-priestly prayer
Not doing a full exegesis
Really a few comments, letting the Scripture and the messages in the songs speak for themselves
…a couple helpful thoughts
>>>hopeful that the Word will resonate better as you consider it through the evening

Prologue, 52:13-15

God’s description of His servant
Acts wisely—does not let His emotion overcome Him
The description says that he He was beaten beyond recognition
Because of that, exalted to a higher place, after His death
Sprinkling of nations is an image of the priests sprinkling the blood, purifying objects in worship
His actions shall affect all nations

People, of Chapter 53

Speaking on behalf of he remnant, the faithful of the Jews
Those who will recognize that Jesus is the longed-for Messiah
Accept Him at His word and follow His word
We can easily see where these prophecies are fulfilled by reading the accounts of NT…what is called “Passion Week”
Challenge to take them one by one and find their fulfilment in the Gospel accounts
Time prohibits that…a good project

The Passion

We equate passion with love—intense love
When we see what the Savior suffered, we see love on a level we can barely understand
If we understand that ALL He took upon Himself was because of the love of the Father for His creation
…He loved the world [in this way] that He sent His Son...
The Love of the Son for the situation of sinful man, that He submitted to the will of His Father
…nevertheless, not my will, but yours...
…we may include the Son’s love of the Father
We begin to understand what true love is
John 15:13 ESV
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Jesus laid down His life for those who were at odds with—totally antagonistic to—the Father
…and ignorant of who He was…forgive them, for they do not know what they do
He brought us reconciliation
He agonized over the reality of what He was to suffer
Though He could have called legions of angels, He did not

Peace

Isaiah 53:5 ESV
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
In a world filled with chaos
…a world filled with calamity
…with restlessness
…with doubt
There is a sure source of peace
…shalom; a broad term
Includes completeness, soundness, welfare, safely, tranquility, contentment
Linkage to healing in the text
Not necessarily physical healing, though it’s possible
…spiritual, accompanied by emotional, healing
With Christ comes forgiveness of sins
…everlasting life
…peace
This is the servant of Isaiah’s prophecy
This is the reality of our Savior, Jesus Christ
