The Emptying - v6-7
The Emptying - v6-7
Jesus is Divine
Jesus is Divine
This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
Divinity was nothing to be achieved; The Trinity is eternal
Neither was it something He needed to defend or hold onto; it’s just who He is
He Emptied Himself
He Emptied Himself
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Jesus was never less than the Son of God; never less than divine.
His was a complete authority and ability throughout; He willingly set aside and held back to accomplish our redemption.
No wonder the old hymn says:
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
How Deep the Father’s Love for us - Stuart Townsend
Time and again, Jesus held back, laid aside that which was rightfully His, emptied Himself for the purpose of obedience to the Father and to attain our redemption.

Jesus is Human

And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
We should not ask WWJD and assume that we can do the same, rather we need be asking what DID Jesus do for us? What about His example of living the fully human life ought we be imitating?
Jesus is more than, but never less than human perfection; not merely divinity.
Jesus submitted to crucifixion

Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.
Inasmuch as it was the will of the Father, Jesus never hesitated to obey; there is no disunity between Father, Son, and Spirit. There is only one-ness; not merely harmony, but true unity.

The Father Exalted Him
The Father Exalted Him
Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
The result - salvation and praise!
The result - salvation and praise!
so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Church Family, let us join in the praise which began before our time, is ongoing, and will eternally ring that Jesus is Lord! Sinner friend, listen to the resounding declaration from God’s people; hear and see that Jesus is King, Lord, and Savior! Bow to Him; rest in Him. Let us confess on this Palm Sunday the Lordship of Jesus to the saving of souls and the glory of the Father!
