Text: Isaiah 53:4-6
The books of the Bible were written by several different human authors over the course of about 1,400 years. One of the most fundamental articles of our faith, though, is that there is, ultimately, one author: God. All of it, from Genesis through Revelation, is the Word of God. That means that you can trust it. You can trust it because you can trust Him. It will not return void, but will accomplish the purpose for which He sends it.
Today, we go even a step further.
God’s Word makes incredible promises. Promises that would be literally unbelievable. These Words and promises of God to you—they are not only the Word of God, they are the Word of God written in the blood of His Son.
You are children of God. And, because you are children, you are “heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ” (Rom. 8:17) to all the riches of heaven. God’s promise to you from His Word, written in the blood of His Son.
We know that [y]our old self was crucified with [Christ] in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that [you are] no longer enslaved to sin” (Rom. 6:6). God’s promise to you, written in the blood of His Son.
“The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us” (Rom. 8:18). God’s promise to you, written in the blood of His Son.
“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Rom. 8:26). God’s promise to you, written in the blood of His Son.
37 [You] are more than conquerors through him who loved [you]. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate [you] from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:37-38). God’s promise to you from His Word, written in the blood of His Son.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy” (1 Peter 2:9-10). God’s promise to you from His Word, written in the blood of His Son.
51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’ 55  ‘O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’ 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:51-57). God’s promise to you from His Word, written in the blood of His Son.
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken” (Is. 25:6-8). God’s promise to you from His Word, written in the blood of His Son.
“Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true” (Rev. 21:3-5). God’s promise to you from His Word, written in the blood of His Son.
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:4-6).
