*God doesn’t choose us because we are the cream of the crop. He chooses us because He loves us.
*Rich young ruler was loved by Jesus, even though He knew he could reject Him.
*People don’t know or believe they are loved by God.
Following Christ, means you believe Christ loves you.

As Jesus was walking by Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake because they were fishermen. Jesus said, “Come follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” So Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.
Says follow Me as a Rabbi who is accepting them not as scholars or the cream of the crop.
At 10 a Jewish boy would know by heart the Torah, and leave school for an apprenticeship.
If good enough they could stay in school until 15, upon graduation they would quote the whole OT.
They could continue on if to rabbinical training if they were the cream of the crop.
Jesus did things backwards.

So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
When Christ calls us to follow Him, He is calling us to a deep transformative life!

Peter denied Jesus 3 times, and Jesus challenges Peter 3 times to bring him to a place of transformative identity.
Peter had returned to his old pattern, what he knew.
Jesus transforms his identity from fisherman to shepherd.
We are transformed by Christ:
From Sinner to Saint
From Ashes to Beauty
From Mourning to the Oil of Joy
From Bound to Free
From Old things to a New Creation
From Cursed to Blessed
From Sick to Well
From Dead to Alive!
True discipleship is allowing Christs Transformative power to make you like Him!
