The I Am statements of Jesus
The I Am statements of Jesus
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
These were the words that Jesus spoke to Martha, the sister of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead.
Jesus proclaims to be the resurrection and the life.
Resurrection and Life
Resurrection and Life
Resurrection and life are two different things; two complimentary things.
The Resurrection
The Resurrection
Resurrection is the power that causes one to “come to life.”
This life-giving power is Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God.
“For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
The Life
The Life
The Life is the Life in God and of God and from God.
This Life is Jesus Christ.
Upon receiving Him, one is “born of God.”
The one who trust in Jesus Christ and lives by faith in Him, possesses eternal life, and when mortal life ends, the life received in Christ continues.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” (2 Cor. 5:8)
Jesus Christ has resurrecting power and He is the essence of eternal life.
The Life-Giving Power of Jesus Christ.
The Life-Giving Power of Jesus Christ.
He is the creator.
In John’s gospel, He is the eternal word which was made flesh, whom without, nothing created would exist.
He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
All four gospels record His life in which He exercised power over sickness and disease; over nature; and over all satanic forces.
Why One who could save others not save Himself?
The cross He bore seemed like His defeat, however, by it, He won eternal victory over sin, death, and Hell!
He satisfied the righteous requirement of the law.
Jesus Christ suffered the full judgment of our sin.
“Death could not hold Him! The grave could not keep Him from rising again.”
(Glorious Day by Casting Crowns)
We are saved by His life.
If you know Jesus Christ as your savior, the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.
And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. (Romans 8:11)
The Life Received by the Power of Jesus Christ.
The Life Received by the Power of Jesus Christ.
“He who believes in Me will live.”
That is, Faith in Jesus Christ causes one to “Come to Life.”
Faith comes by hearing the voice of the Lord.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;
The one who is dead in their sins will come to life if He will hear and obey the gospel.
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
We possess the life of Christ as we live in this sinful world.
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
The Resurrection to Come
The Resurrection to Come
The temporal will give way to the eternal.
“The world is passing away, but He who does the will of God will abide forever.” (John the Apostle)
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.
