Out of Egypt and crossing into freedom

Exodus 20:2 NASB95
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Jesus came and paid the price to set us free

Luke 4:18–19 NASB95
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, 19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

What does true freedom mean?

Jesus set the best example of true freedom

Philippians 2:5–8 NASB95
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

This is where our true freedom began

Mark 16:1–7 NASB95
1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. 5 Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. 7 “But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’ ”

His resurrection makes our freedom possible

John 8:32 NASB95
32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

How do we handle our freedom in Christ?

Galatians 5:13 NASB95
13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

True freedom will make you a bondslave

1 Peter 2:16 NASB95
16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.
Galatians 5:1 NASB95
1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1 NKJV
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
2 Corinthians 3:17 NASB95
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:17 NASB95
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Bottom line

John 8:35–36 NASB95
35 “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
