Passage
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Observations
Observations
When Jesus resurrected, he enacted a new phase to the ministry of the gospel unlike before.
Now, Jesus has passed the baton onto his disciples.
It is a transition that is passed onto us today.
Jesus words to his disciples ring true for us today.
The authority has been given to Jesus in heaven and earth.
The command Jesus gives is for the church to make disciples.
Make Disciples = to make disciples, to cause people to become followers
The Greek verb translated go is actually not a command but a present participle (going). The only command in the entire Great Commission is “make disciples” (“teach all nations”). Jesus said, “While you are going, make disciples of all the nations.” No matter where we are, we should be witnesses for Jesus Christ and seek to win others to Him (Acts 11:19–21). Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 107). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books.
The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Volume 8: Matthew, Mark, Luke 2. The Great Commission (28:18–20)
The NT can scarcely conceive of a disciple who is not baptized or is not instructed. Indeed, the force of this command is to make Jesus’ disciples responsible for making disciples of others, a task characterized by baptism and instruction.
Main Point
Main Point
The best way we can make disciples is by being a witness for Jesus.
How does our witness help in the process of making disciples?
Our response by faith with baptism and a commitment to grow in Christ.
2. Our supernatural fruit that is born from a supernatural relationship.
