Hebrews 10:19-25

Hebrews 10:19–25 ESV
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Confidence = Boldness
Where as the presence of God was sealed off by the curtain in the OT
Through Christ, what was sealed off is now open wide

Hold Fast

vs 23
We can hold fast to the confession because the Work is done
We hold fast because he is faithful
Confession of our HOPE, not Faith
The confession that Christ is our High Priest is our hope for us to ENDURE
Increasingly, we are going to be surrounded by a culture that wants us to move from our confession
To compromise on who man is, who God is, on who Jesus is.
Yet in the midst of this pressure, we hold

Hebrews: An Introduction and Commentary (i) The New and Living Way (10:19–25)

Close and regular fellowship with other believers is not just a nice idea, but an absolute necessity for the encouragement of Christian values.

Forsake = Neglect
Willful abandoning of something or someone, particularly for something else
meet together = episynogogue
denotes a formal gathering
Church = Ecclesia
An individual assembly of Christians
Kent Hughes
It has been said that a person does not have to go to church to be a Christian. He does not have to go home to be married either. But in both cases if he does not, he will have a very poor relationship
Matt Merker
A church is more than a gathering, of course. It gathers, then scatters, then gathers again. Its members continue to be part of the church throughout the week, as they serve and represent Christ in their homes, workplaces and neighborhoods. But a church is never less than a gathering.
Why do we get together?
Let us CONSIDER how to stir up one another to love and good works
Consider here points to an intentional, thoughtful effort
It is our intentional desire to gather together for the worship of God and the good of the body
Contrast to the Consumeristic Church
Koinonia: A relation between individuals which involves a common interest and a mutual, active participation in that interest and in each other
