The human condition

Recap of Genesis 3; The fall
God gave judgement to the first humans. Why?
BECAUSE WE NEED IT...

Why do we need judgement

Judgement and trust are interconnected in many ways. We know that we can trust our God because we know that he is all knowing.
1 John 3:20 CSB
20 whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows all things.
Psalm 139:4 CSB
4 Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, Lord.
Psalm 147:5 CSB
5 Our Lord is great, vast in power; his understanding is infinite.
Hes not just all knowing but he 100% righteous in EVERYTHING
Deuteronomy 32:4 CSB
4 The Rock—his work is perfect; all his ways are just. A faithful God, without bias, he is righteous and true.
Psalm 97:2 CSB
2 Clouds and total darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Why is justice/judgement the foundation of his throne?
A God that is not righteous doesn’t deserve worship… in the same way a team that scores fewer points does not deserve to win.
We have a God that is continuously righting the wrongs in the world that we live in.
Judging — This is necessary for humanity to know God....

Without judgement you cannot have repentance

If God had no moral compass pointing to the consequence of sin, then people would NOT put their trust in him.
In a way God’s judgement is like exercise
Without it, there is no way that I will ever reach my BEST condition.... Without exercise, I will make BAD eating decisions and become VERY unhealthy
My body will continue to depreciate until it is beyond the point of return
But exercise is good for me because when I exercise my body is able to return to the healthy form it was before
After I have exercised for months at a time my body doesn’t just return to the condition it was before my bad decision, MY BODY BECOMES BETTER
When you experience or read about God’s judgement in the Bible, you’re not reading about a God that HATES humanity and wants to see everyone suffer
You’re actually reading about a parental figure offering correction so that people would repent and come to him… A BETTER PERSON THAN BEFORE; LEARNING HOW TO BECOME MORE LIKE CHRIST ALONG THE WAY
So God’s judgement is necessary

If God’s judgement is necessary, then what about me?

Romans 3:23 CSB
23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
Romans 6:23 CSB
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So, in short,
God is a righteous god and must sanction out the punishment that we deserve OR ELSE HE IS NOT RIGHTEOUS
Sin deserve death
To atone for our shortcomings, God provided a way by which we could endure God’s judgement AND escape the grip of death
2 Corinthians 5:21 CSB
21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
This was an act of God alone to show us the depth of his GREAT love
Ephesians 2:8–9 CSB
8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—9 not from works, so that no one can boast.
God took his son and crushed him on the cross
Crucifixion details...
Through God’s righteous judgement we can be saved from death FOREVER
Romans 10:9–10 CSB
9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.
