Good morning to you my brothers and sisters, I am so grateful to be standing befor you on this day as we commemorate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus called the Christ. All over the world today there are millions of Christians who are celebrating and may of them are participating in a tradition that I would love for us to join in. It’s a simple call and response. Christ is Risen...He is risen indeed!
Over the past few weeks, we have been in a series of sermons entitled, Jesus Unfiltered. The purpose of this series was to introduce us to the real jesus that I believe scripture and history teaches us about yet He has been filtered. Remember we defined a filter as something that modifies or transforms the image of something in order to make it more acceptable to the masses. We have discovered that Jesus was not this passive hippy yet our sable skinned Savior disrupted the economic, social and political structures of His day forcing the powers that were to determine that Jesus must die. We know why He died, that’s the reason we are here today. He died for our sins. That’s what we are celebrating today. Resurrection Sunday. This is what our faith is all about. We are commemorating thew resurrection today but honestly, it is the very reason we gather each and every Sunday. The apostle Paul said if there is no resurrection, if Christ has not been raised our preaching is useless and so is your faith. If we don’t have Christ crucified and Christ resurrected, we have nothing. He died for us but He was killed because He refused to bend the knee to the injustice of His day. And for this 4th and for this 4th and final installment of this series let’s look at how it all came to an end.
