Let's eat
Urban dictionary - The act in which you completely tear apart a team and keep driving and scoring on them.
When you hear this phrase…
You think about a grind
You think about hustling
Reaching a goal
But it’s always driven by some type of personal gain…
Either for yourself or someone else!
Let’s Eat…
I want to be in a different position in life…
I want my family to be set for life…
The Struggle Is Real
Matthew 26:36–38 ESV
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.”
We see the agony of Jesus.
He was sure that death lay ahead.
Its very breath was on him.
He knew the agony of the cross.
Jesus had his supreme struggle to submit his will to the will of God.
No one can read this story without seeing the intense reality of that struggle.
Jesus said “My soul is ver sorrowful”
Soul - Mind / Will / Emotions
Sorrowful: extremely sad adj. — crushed by grief; understood as if surrounded by sadness.
His heart was heavy to the point of death!
Watch with me - He wanted to feel their fellowship with him in the great crisis that was so near.
Luke 22:43–44 ESV
And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Table For One
Matthew 26:39 ESV
And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
“He fell on his face and prayed”
“My father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me” (read it slow)
Cup: It symbolizes suffering, death and wrath.
This cup of judgment—the one that everyone except Him deserved for breaking of God's covenant.
Jesus said... let this pass from me
Nevertheless… Not as I will but as you will
God’s will doesn’t always feel good
Matthew 26:40–42 ESV
And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”
“Found them sleeping”
Jesus knew that his assignment was a table for one!
You’re trying to EAT and they’re sleep
My assignment is not based off of a buddy system…
The second time he went away to pray…
“My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”
Your will be done!
Let’s EAT
Matthew 26:43–46 ESV
And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”
“Rise, Let us be Going”
Jesus knew it was time to eat…
But he knew why He had to EAT
He knew what was on the line…
Not my will but you will be done…
He didn’t say let’s eat
so you could have:
A New Car
Job
Promotion
A Roof over your head
or so that you could live an unfulfilled life
Stuck
Complacent
Jesus knew he had to EAT so that we could be free…
Romans 5:9–10 ESV
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Sin - Because of disobedience
Enemies -
Wrath - Punishment
