26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.”
27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
24 So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, to see who gets it.” This happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled that says: They divided my clothes among themselves, and they cast lots for my clothing. This is what the soldiers did. 25 Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
In order to fully appreciate this snapshot from the crucifixion, We must first realize the scene. Jesus is literally hanging on the cross. The weight of His body pulling painfully against the nails in his hands and feet. With his arms stretched out every breath would have been a struggle. Just to speak it would have been excruciating .
Yet while he was bearing this pain, He was also bearing the weight of our sin, the weight of the worlds sin on himself, Fulfilling what the scriptures described as “The one who knew no sin became sin for us”.
Even while he was carrying all of these things His great love for His mother shown threw in making provision for her. You see his love for the whole World is a wide, all-encompassing love. It is a love that calls out to all those who will receive it, but it is also a very personal love for you and for me. The love of Christ is both great and yet personal. And with difficultly of breath He Said to John, “Here is your mother, and from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
