1 Timothy 2:1–7 ESV
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

I. Mediation Needed to God

1 Timothy 2:5a For there is on God,
Mediator; μεσίτης mesitēs; one who mediates between two parties to remove a disagreement or reach a common goal, mediator, arbitrator
Thomas Goodwin writes,

His wisdom therefore thought of a commutation, so as that that satisfaction should be performed by a surety in our stead, who might be a mediator and umpire, and who might take our sins upon himself, and upon whom God might lay the iniquity of us all, Isa. 53:6, and exact the punishment

Umpire: a person chosen to arbitrate between contending parties.

II. Mediation Needed for Man.

1 Timothy 2:5b and there is on mediator between God and men,

III. Mediation Accomplished by Christ.

1 Timothy 2:5c Fore there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:34 ESV
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Hebrews 8:6 ESV
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Hebrews 9:15 ESV
Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
Hebrews 12:24 ESV
and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
