Who is This Man?

Today we will answer the question “Who is this Man?” Who is this Jesus?

700 years before the birth of Christ a passage was written describing in detail the long awaited messiah. In graphic detail this passage outlines for us His crucifixion. In many Jewish circles even today this passage is known as the forbidden chapter and is not read in synagogues because if it were to be read people may here The Word and believe in Yeshua and recognize Him as the Messiah. This Passage is found in Isaiah 52 and 53. Instead of Just reading it to you, We will read the story of Christ as is written in the Gospels and every time an event takes place that was predicted in Isaiah we will pause to read that passage. So that the scriptures themselves will answer the question for us, “Who is this man?”

John 12:12–13 CSB

12 The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord—the King of Israel!”

Isaiah 52:13 CSB

13 See, my servant will be successful; he will be raised and lifted up and greatly exalted.

Mark 14:55–56 CSB

55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any. 56 For many were giving false testimony against him, and the testimonies did not agree.

Mark 14:57–59 CSB

57 Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, stating, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’ ” 59 Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.

Isaiah 53:3 CSB

3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.

Mark 14:60–61 CSB

Mark 15:1–5 CSB

1 As soon as it was morning, having held a meeting with the elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin, the chief priests tied Jesus up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. 2 So Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” He answered him, “You say so.” 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things. 4 Pilate questioned him again, “Aren’t you going to answer? Look how many things they are accusing you of!” 5 But Jesus still did not answer, and so Pilate was amazed.

14 Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!” 15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Isaiah 53:12 CSB

12 Therefore I will give him the many as a portion, and he will receive the mighty as spoil, because he willingly submitted to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet he bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.

Mark 15:29–32 CSB

29 Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, 30 save yourself by coming down from the cross!” 31 In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes were mocking him among themselves and saying, “He saved others, but he cannot save himself! 32 Let the Messiah, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with him taunted him.

Luke 23:39–43 CSB

39 Then one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other answered, rebuking him: “Don’t you even fear God, since you are undergoing the same punishment? 41 We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

33 When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemá sabachtháni?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Isaiah 53:10 CSB

10 Yet the Lord was pleased to crush him severely. When you make him a guilt offering, he will see his seed, he will prolong his days, and by his hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished.

John 19:34–37 CSB

34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out. 35 He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. Mark 15:38–39 CSB

38 Then the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 When the centurion, who was standing opposite him, saw the way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

Matthew 27:57–60 CSB

57 When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58 He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it be released. 59 So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen, 60 and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.

Isaiah 53:9 CSB

9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but he was with a rich man at his death, because he had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.

Matthew 27:62–66 CSB

62 The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 So give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Matthew 28:1–7 CSB

1 After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they became like dead men. 5 The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here. Isaiah 53:11 CSB

11 After his anguish, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities.

Song: In Christ Alone?

Can there still be any doubt?

Today you saw for yourselves the prediction of the Messiah, some 700 hundred years before His Birth, His story laid out in great detail. However, this information is only valuable if you realize why it was that He Died. He did this for you and for me. The Father in his infinite Love looked down at the broken Human condition of mankind and our sin. And for His own Glory wrote redemption's Story. He chose to send His one and only Son to be the sacrifice for the world.

Isaiah 53:6 CSB

6 We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for the iniquity of us all.

Sin was man’s problem so by a man it had to be paid for . Christ became man and took our place. He took our punishment and shame. He died on the cross for you and for me. But as we just read and have sung about He didn’t remain in the Tomb He arose from the grave defeating sin and death, once and for all.

So that all those who would turn from their sin,by putting their faith in Jesus Christ would receive the forgiveness that he bought through his death and the victory through his Resurrection.

Matthew 4:17 CSB

17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Romans 10:9–10 CSB

9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.

Would you do that today? Will you give your heart permission to believe the truth. Will you turn from your sins and accept forgiveness? If you will every sin will be forgiven you and you will be saved. You will be redeemed, transformed, and have a relationship with God the Father through Jesus the Son.
