God, we thank you for the opportunity to gather here to celebrate the union of this incredible couple we love so dearly. Marriage is a gift and an institution of your gracious and joyful creation, and we thank you for it. God, we know you are with Spencer and Lauren in this moment, but you’re also already in each and every moment of their matrimony years and years in the future. Lord, we thank you that we have been able to witness their relationship and we commit as family and friends to walk with them and to support them with all of our might.
Father, we know these days are not easy for marriage, so we ask for your protection and sustaining power for Spencer and Lauren. As commitment becomes harder to come by in our day, we pray for dedication and steadfastness. As temptation abounds, we pray for diligence and purity. As disagreement inevitably happens, we pray for tenderness and understanding. And when days are hard and the storms of life rage, we pray that Spencer and Lauren would be an unspeakable source of joy and comfort for one another.
But more than anything God, we pray that their marriage does what it was made to do: picture the Gospel; the glorious reality that despite our sin and rejection of God, Jesus made a way through the cross so that we could be right with God and in relationship with him forever. We pray that Spencer and Lauren’s marriage would show your love for the world clearly and beautifully. In these days where the nations rage and chaos abounds we pray that Spencer and Lauren’s marriage would be the antidote to our temptation to helplessness and doubt because with one look at them we would be reminded of your love and goodness, and power, and steadfastness in the Gospel; that by looking at their marriage, we would be reminded of the hope of the Gospel. God, we thank you for Spencer and Lauren and we thank you for the gift of the gospel displayed in marriage.
It’s in Jesus holy name we pray, Amen.
