Malachi 1:11 NKJV
11 For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations,” Says the Lord of hosts.
Giving
2 Corinthians 9:7–8 NKJV
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

Sermon Text:

John 20:19–23 NKJV
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

1. They where Scared....

The New International Version
John 20:19 (NIV)
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
They where scared because they saw what they did to Jesus.
they killed Jesus that thought they where coming to kill them.
we know how the story ends but lets not skip over this.
we all have things we are scared of…
some of us fear loosing our spouses to infidelity- either online infidelity or in person.
some of us fear we will die alone.
some of us have financial fear.
some people fear their deepest darkest secrets being exposed.
relapse
the death of parents.
failure
In relationships.
in family
God
success
christian- the fear that we will loose everything. (Africa).
we will never have things restored as other people have.

2. They where secured.

John 20:19 NKJV
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
Jesus knew they where scared. He knows that you are scared to.
You might be from the word of faith tradition: (you keep telling people not to confess this or that) but that thing that you are “not confessing” is still oppressing you.
it’s not Spiritual to say the faith thing and hide your fear.
they had good reason to be afraid.
Jesus king Jesus moved past their fear and walked past their locked doors, and showed up behind boundaries to speak peace to the perplexed.

3. He showed His scars.

John 20:19–20 NKJV
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
notice that he did not show his wounds, he showed his scares.
look at Jesus, He came back healed and whole,
let me take a moment and say that if you are going to be healed and whole, you are going to have to forgive. yes, you need to forgive others. i feel like most of us know that. if you don’t let me just tell you that you need to forgive others (Matthew 18:35). I dont want to make lite of any of my sin. I want to make amends for as many as I can. as I am doing all that, how long until the grace of God applies to me?
most Christians are not walking in fruits like joy because they are either living in denial of what they have done or they are living under the condemnation of what they have done. neither of those extremes is from the Lord.

4. They where serendipitous at the encounter with their Lord.

at the death of the Lord of Glory not only where they afraid for their lives and the future; they where dismayed at what their lives had been about for the last three and a half years.
they left wives and businesses, lives and normality to fallow Jesus.
what did it all mean.
I have been here, (expound).

5. They where sent.

John 20:21 NKJV
21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
Jesus sent them into the Mission field.
everyone has a place of service (a Ministry).
Just as they where sent, we are sent!

6. They where Spirit Filled.

John 20:22–23 NKJV
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
Just as God the Father breathed into the nostrils of Adam the breath of life, so God the son confirms the new life in Him,
the world will have to do something with Jesus!
