Scripture: Rom 8:28
It seems like last year and this year have been years to remember! We still have to make adjustments, and it seems we are no closer to ending this pandemic; there still are spikes everywhere.
It almost reminds me of Gideon in Judges chapter 6, where the Lord comes to him and says God has an assignment on your life.
· Gideon looks back at the angel and says that if God is with us, why is all this happening to us?
· None of us is immune from that question
· Life will put us in a bind
· So many uncertainties and struggles
In the midst of these uncertain days, I believe this is a word that will encourage us to know that God is still on the throne.
This verse: is one of those verses that most believers know by heart:
· It's right up there with- “The Lord is my Shepherd.”
· This verse is right up there with- “Weeping only endures for a night.”
· This verse can be compared to “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
· This is the verse that holds its head with “They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.
We hear Paul saying these words: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” NKJV [It’s All Good]
· “For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
· Rom 8:28 Is one of those verses that holds you together when it seems like life is trying to pull you apart…It’s one of those verses you remind yourself that when bad news catches you off guard
· Rom 8:28 is what you speak over your life when you find out your friends are fake and your enemies are real.
· Rom 8:28. It is one of those verses that you are looking into the mirror when you wake up in the morning, and you know it’s about to be a rough day!
· Rom 8:28 Is one of those verses you quote when it seems like things are going from bad to worse.
· Roman 8:28 is that verse you meditate on when you are anxious about the unknown Andy uncertain, and you don't know when and how and where things are going to work out.
But you remind yourself: We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
· There is no other verse in scripture that gives you so much encouragement and assurance as these words as Paul has written to this young church in Rome who are facing persecution under Emperor Nero.
· We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
· One of the first questions you must ask yourself is “who is the We,” but the question is answered in the last part of the verse. To those who are called according to His purpose.
Who’s the we? The ones that love God and are called according to His purpose.
· To them, that love God is a direct reference to Paul’s Jewish heritage
· The Jews were told to love God in Duet. 6… They start and end their day with “We love God.”
· Paul also assures us that it is not only for those who love God but also for those called according to his purpose.
· The world is full of people who have God on their lips but do not have Jesus Christ in their heart
· The world is filled with folks who can talk religious and sound religious and look religious but don't have the love of Jesus Christ in their heart
· Anybody can say they believe in God
· Anybody can call on God when they need something
· Anybody can thank God when they got what they wanted
· Anybody can act like they walk with God when they need God to deliver them out of something
· But brother Paul declares it is not enough to say that you love God; you must also belong to God, and believing in God does not mean you belong to God
You must believe and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior
· The question is, are you part of the “We”?
The hard part to understand is when Paul says: “All things work together for the good” people struggle with this verse because
· There’s nothing good when you get a bad report from the doctor
· There’s nothing good when you just lost your job
· There’s nothing good when you are going through a divorce
· How can the bottom of your life drop out, and you know it’s going to work for your good?
· I had to wrestle to understand this; it seemed like just thinking positively or hoping that it would work out.
o To know in Greek means to know or to have seen it
o This is more of a testimony of the past
o Paul is not making a promise about tomorrow, but he is testifying about the past
How do you know things will work for my good?
· Because I have seen it before
· I have seen God make a way out of no way
· I have seen God answer prayer
· I have seen God go “Exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think
· I have seen God turn a life around
· I have seen God open doors that no one can close
· I have seen God turn weeping into joy
· I have seen God do great things in this church
· I have seen God do great things in my life
· That’s how I know things are working for my good
Phil. 4:6 says: Do not be anxious about anything,
· Don't be anxious about tomorrow
· but take a moment and pause and remember your yesterdays
· In claim what God has already shown you and done for you and your life
· He's already shown his hand strong
· He's already shown that he can deliver
· He's already shown that he will answer prayer
· He's already shown that he will open closed doors
· He's already shown that he is a healer
· He's already shown that he will move mountains
And every now and then, you’ve got to remember what God has shown you!
· We know… we know what we have seen
The NIV says: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
· This shows us that it is God who is in control
· We should know that it is GOD who made away in our lives.
· We who love the Lord and are called accordingly to His purpose know it was God who made away.
· Some things may start as a blessing, but it ended as a blessing
· It may have looked like it was good for me, but it ended up being good
· It doesn’t matter how it starts, but if we put it in God’s hand, it will work out for my good
· It may have been killing me, but God used it to strengthen me
· It may have been casting me down, but God used it to build me up
· It may have been recking my mind, but God used it to give me wisdom
· Is there anyone here who can look back over their life and say it started bad, but it ended up good, and God turns it around for my good
It works together for good.
The frustrating part is that usually, it takes some time for things to work out because it doesn’t work into good immediately; it doesn’t work overnight
Every now and then, we have to give God some time to work things
· Can you walk with God for a season?
· Can you walk with God on a Monday, and if it’s not done by Friday?
· If it not down by next week or next month
· If you are still dealing with it next year
· Can you still God sometimes?
We all wonder why God just can’t fix it overnight, but the answer is simple: What God is doing for you is not limited to you!
Things haven’t worked out is because God is working on someone else in your life to deliver them from their problem
Give God sometimes: The Bible says: But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Trust in God: We who are called according to his purpose
God takes what we don’t like and works it for our good.
