Eschatology: Terms and Vocabulary

Introduction

We come to the half-way point in Revelation. It is here that we find the 7th trumpet being sounded,
the 3rd woe that will bring the finality of God’s judgment. When the 7th trumpet sounds it will reveal the 7 “bowl judgments.”

I. The Seventh Trumpet

Revelation 11:15 NKJV
15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”
When the seventh trumpet sounds there will be a heavenly declaration that God and his Son, Jesus, will be taking over.
The apostle Paul talked about this when he said,
1 Corinthians 15:24 NKJV
24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.
But remember that the sounding of this seventh trumpet unleashes the seven bowl judgments.
They are one and the same so the world will still have a way to go.
Satan is the head of those rulers, authorities, and powers. They are organized and influence the nations to do evil.
before the Tribulation Period ends, God and his Son will do away with them.
God will take over and transform this world into a better place.

II. Fall on Your Knees

Revelation 11:16–17 NKJV
16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying: “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
The announcement that God and Jesus will be taking over will cause a tremendous reaction in heaven.
The Church will fall down on their faces and worship God. They will thank him because he is alive and will be exercising his great power by starting his earthly reign.
From this point on Satan’s days will be drawing quickly to a close.
Jesus will begin to exercise the authority* over nations that became his when he died on the cross.
He will go forth to conquer the forces of evil* and usher in the Millennium.
The twenty-four elders* represent the Church from Pentecost to the Rapture.

III. The Time Has Come

Revelation 11:18 NKJV
18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”
Satan will know his day will soon end, so he will stir the anger of the nations.
At the same time he does that, God’s wrath will burn brighter, which will put Satan and Jesus on a collision course.
Satan will unite the nations against Jesus. The ensuing conflict is referred to as the Battle of Armageddon.
Everyone is accountable to God. No one will escape his judgment.
Even the dead will be judged.
But the righteous will be rewarded before the Judgment Seat of Christ* for reverencing the name of Jesus,
and the wicked will be destroyed for their unrepented sin.

IV. Mercy

Revelation 11:19 NKJV
19 Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail.
Following the heavenly worship service (described in the three preceding verses),
when the elders declare that Satan will stir the nations against God’s people, God will open his heavenly temple.
He has a temple similar to the tabernacle Moses* constructed in the wilderness.
God’s heavenly temple houses the ark of the covenant*. The mercy seat* rests on top of the ark, where the blood of sacrificial goats was sprinkled for the sins of God’s people.
The ark, with its mercy seat, will be a reminder that God has always shown mercy to his people.
Satan will stir the nations against Israel. The lightning, noises, thunder, earthquakes, and hailstorms will be signs of God’s wrath to come, but God will show mercy by protecting Israel.

Chapter wrap up

God will empower his two witnesses to prophesy for 1,260 days during which time they will be able to smite the earth with plagues and consume their enemies with fire. (Revelation 11:3–6)
After prophesying for 1,260 days, the two witnesses will be killed by the Antichrist in Jerusalem. Their bodies will lie in the street while unbelievers celebrate. (Revelation 11:7–10)
Three and a half days after the witnesses are killed, God will resurrect them, call them home to heaven, and destroy a tenth of Jerusalem with an earthquake. (Revelation 11:11–13)
A heavenly declaration proclaiming that Jesus will soon start his earthly reign will follow the seventh trumpet blast. (Revelation 11:15)
God will open his heavenly temple, revealing the ark of the covenant, which serves as a reminder that he has always shown Israel mercy. (Revelation 11:19)

Salvation

(Show Slide)
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we bow our heads:
Repeat after me:
1. Lord I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I asked forgiveness of my sins, and I Except Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In his name I Pray, amen.
