My goal as your pastor is to help us all by the grace of God to become more like Jesus. As the great commission says, I am to make disciples of Jesus, baptize them into the family of Jesus, and teach people to obey the commands of Jesus.
I See a lot of messed up lives / broken lives / confused and hurting people.
I hate to say it but, much of it is brought on by themselves. (Not all).
Over the years my biggest concern has become “Fake Christianity”
Weak / no real hope / insincere / get out of hell card without following the way of Jesus.
This kind of religion is deadly - it is a lie and can honestly make your life a living hell.
This kind of religion changes with culture rather than creating culture.
It says Jesus, I want you to save me, heal me, fix my marriage, get me a job, but, I will not follow your way of life.
2 Timothy 3:1–5 ESV
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
I am not angry but heart broken / many live like this and as a result they deny the power of God in their own lives.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the next five weeks we will be discussing our call to live like Jesus. We will be using our value statement as a guid, as we look into the life Jesus calls us to live.
Week 2 - Connecting
Week 3 - Growing
Week 4 - Serving
Week 5 - Going to the lost and the forgotten people.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today - Worship
Worship Is our Lifestyle - Worship
Worship is our outward and inward expression and response to the Glory of God shown through all that we do. We will worship God with all that it means to be human; finances, work and play, relationships, sexuality, and our engagement with the world.

Living Like Jesus Starts with Worshipping Jesus as Lord!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did You know You Become Like What You Worship?

Ever wonder why culture seems to always slide into filth and death?
Magazine Article - Stop sexualizing women / Ad on the next page - Selling a burger through a mostly naked young woman.
Culture says sex trafficking is bad / Produce movies with young people involved in sex / celebrate the porn industry as women's lib.
This is because we take on the nature of what we worship and reflect it back into society.
Psalm 115:5–8 NASB95
They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see; They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell; They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat. Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.

Yet, when Jesus becomes the object of our worship we are transformed into the His image.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NASB95
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
Romans 8:29 NASB95
For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
The reality is worship changes us and we all worship something.
If we want real justice, then we need to worship the Lord of Justice
If we want to see women elevated rather than demoted to sexual objects we need to worship the Lord who created Man and Woman in His image.
We reflect that which we worship.
If we want to live like Jesus we have to worship Jesus
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Worship?

In the Hebrew and the Greek the word means to bow down, to kiss the hand, to lay prostrate.
These all speak to an act of awe and humility before one who is greater.
Hebrews 12:28–29 ESV
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
The Apostle Paul writing to Rome spoke of worship as offering our bodies as a living sacrifice. He then tells us to see one another as equals in Christ and to sacrificially serve one another, as well as holding to the faith even in persecution.
Romans 12:1 NASB95
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Jesus describes worship as an act of spirit and truth. The word spirit here is pneuma and it is referring to the vital part of man that gave animation and life to clay. It is also used to describe breath and the Spirit of God.
Jesus also spoke of truth - Not insincere worship but truthfully worship God, and worship the true God.
John 4:23–24 NASB95
“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Worship is expressing awe and humility to the true God revealed in Jesus, living sacrificially towards Him and one another, and offering our full life to His service.
In other words, worship is reflecting God’s nature in awe and reverence through all that it means to be human.

All We Think, Feel, and Do is Worship.

Mark 12:29–31 ESV
Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Your intuitions, drives, and loves, your secret inner self should be aimed towards reflecting the nature of the God Jesus revealed.
Soul - Life force, spirit, In all that it means to be alive we should be giving worship to the Lord
Mind - How we think should reflect the nature of the Lord
And all that we do, make, create, should be towards honoring and loving the Lord.
In our social interactions, we should reflect the nature of God to one another.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are Called to Worship Jesus as LORD

Luke 6:46–49 ESV
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Jesus is not Lord if we are unwilling to follow His way.
If Jesus is not Lord, you are not truthfully worshipping Him.
And if we are not worshipping Him in truthfulness, who are you worshipping and what are you being transformed into?

The difference between liking Jesus (being a fan) and worshipping Jesus (Following him) is obedience.

A lot of people like what Jesus had to say about love but choose not to obey.
Jesus said not to judge, you idiot. Jesus said to love our neighbors, man I hate those kind of people.
I like Jesus but.... that teaching is so not cool.
Bobble head Jesus with a religious buffet.
Real worship will produce awe inspired, humble obedience
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are all worshipping creature. We were created to reflect that which we love and admire.
Gen 1 and 2 make that very clear. We were meant to be a reflection of the Lord our God in all that it means to be human.
The reality is though, we all worship, though all humanity worship, we do not all worship the God expressed in Jesus.
Humanity worships all kinds of false gods, money, fame, power, family, wisdom, etc. Yet each of these false gods leave us hopeless.
We truly do become like what we worship.
If we are to live like Jesus we must first become a people who worship Jesus - Who are in awe of Him, love him, humbled to be called to him, and devoted to live for him in all obedience.
When we worship Jesus, we will become like Him!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evaluate your life - Do you really worship Jesus with all you are as the Lord of your life?”
Tear down the idols in your life that take you away from being like Jesus.
Make a conscience decision today - My entire life, my thoughts, my emotions, my will, my desire - they will all point to your goodness Jesus.
