Introduction
How much joy is in your life
Acts 13:48–14:7 NIV84
When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed. The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. But the Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders. The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. There was a plot afoot among the Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, where they continued to preach the good news.

Joy is a Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22 NIV84
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
They were Rejected and persecuted in two cities but were still filled with joy
They attempted to stone them, yet they were filled with joy
Difficulties were not a sign of defeat but a call on the next place to share love
confident trust broke forth in joy

It was what God did in them that produces this joy

When the Spirit beats within us, there is calm, trust, and hope
We know that sickness, circumstances, people, or whatever might happen cannot defeat us
Luke 2:10 NIV84
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
The convincing content of joy is that the Lord himself is synonymous with joy
John 16:22 NIV84
So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
John 16:24 NIV84
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
John 16:33 NIV84
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 17:13 NIV84
“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
If death could be defeated, all things were possible
Colossians 1:9–12 NIV84
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

It is the expression of Delight Over being part of the Transformation of the world

Luke 15:9–10 NIV84
And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Their Fellowship was Joy

We were never meant to make it alone
