Question #2: What spiritual grace are we NOT to diligently add to our faith? Wealth

Question #3: What will be our condition if we lack these graces? Forgetful of being purged from our old sins Shortsighted, even to blindness

2 Peter 1:12–16 ESV
Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
1. What was Peter careful to ensure concerning these things? (12,15)
To remind them always, even though they know them and are well established
2. What did Peter hope to accomplish? What did he know would soon happen? (13-14)
To stir them by reminding them He would put off his tent (i.e., die), just as Jesus showed him
3. In making known the power and coming of the Lord Jesus, did Peter claim he followed cunningly devised fables? (16)
NO
2 Peter 1:17–21 ESV
For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
4, What experience in Jesus’ life does Peter refer to as an example of witnessing the Lord’s honor and glory? (17-18)
The transfiguration on the mount
5. In addition to apostolic testimony, what else do we have to which we should give careful heed? (19)
We have the prophetic word confirmed, which we do well to heed.
6. How does this word serve us? (19)
As a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in our hearts
7. What should be remembered regarding the prophetic word? (20-21)
Prophecy did not come by the will of men, by holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit No prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation (i.e., origin)

8. What can be done to help Christians not question the validity and truthfulness of scripture?

Cynthia Taylor: God's word is the best tool to use to help Christians not question the validity and truthfulness of the scriptures. There are so many things that confirm the validity of God's word.  Prophecies fulfilled concerning Christ, written testimony of those that were with Christ, and sixty-six books of the Bible that were written at different times by different people but have one consistent thought.  We have to study the scriptures.

Ted Yancy: We as Christian must have faith in God Word, without waving and without doubting.
Barry Johnson: To help men not doubt the validity of scripture, it ought to be always referred to as coming from God and not from men. 2 Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is breathed out by God...(ESV)
