27 These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron.
28 And it came to pass on the day when the Lord spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt,
29 That the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, I am the Lord: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.
30 And Moses said before the Lord, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me?
Moses has entered into a discouraging low in His ministry! He has done everything God has instructed him to do (Notice 6:9). Let’s be honest, there are just times when our emotions get the better of our perspective! Let’s not also be foolish to think that God is not considerate of that kind of experience. Jesus knows exactly what it’s like to walk this earth doing the Father’s will and many of those He encountered had nothing to do with Him.
There is one thing a believer in Christ must always keep in check; their identity!
1) We Must Rest In Obedience
1) We Must Rest In Obedience
Let’s be gracious and cut Moses some slack here.
Moses was feeling rejected from every corner.
When the results are lacking from your perspective, it is easy to become discouraged and begin to live in doubt of your own purpose.
Notice how the people treated Moses:
Moses just finished telling them all of the wonderful promises of God’s election of grace on them as a people.
“Hearkened” = to listen; pay attention
Their needs and pain seemed to only have grown due to Moses’ ministry.
Application: Many of God’s servants can get discouraged today from the treatment of God’s people.
Illustration: COVID has shown the good, bad and ugly in believers.
It is easy to allow those who are carnal Christians shape your identity. DON’T ENTERTAIN SUCH A SPIRIT!
Gal 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. [10] As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Keep the joy of obedience in front of you at all times!
2) We Must Renew Our Perspective
2) We Must Renew Our Perspective
I’ll be honest, it appears as if God just sporadically drop in the genealogy of Moses and Aaron.
God knew exactly what He was doing.
First - I believe God wanted to remind Moses that the people of which he was sent to deliver were of his kind.
Moses was a picture of who Jesus would come to save.
Second - God also wanted Moses to understand that he was made for this time and purpose.
Moses belonged to the tribe of Levi, and his father and mother are Amram and Jochebed.
His genealogy provides the necessary credentials for Moses to accomplish the work he is sent to do.
Application: You as God’s child should never think for a moment that your identity is determined by people or circumstances.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “I just don’t have what it takes to do this anymore?”
First - You are God’s child
1 John 3:1-2
Second - You are called to purpose
Ephesians 2:10
Third - You are equipped with grace
1 Corinthians 15:10
To keep a biblical perspective of your life’s purpose, it takes a constant view of Calvary and the empty tomb!
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
3) We Must Rejoice together
3) We Must Rejoice together
There is no doubt, Moses has to give an account of his excuses and doubts.
However, the event that pushed Moses over the edge in doubt of success with the pagan king, was God’s people.
Quote: If God’s professing people hear not his messengers, how can it be thought that his professed enemy should?
Moses was saying, “If God’s people won’t listen to God’s message, why should I believe God’s enemies will?”
Christ MUST REMAIN IN VIEW of God’s ministers!
Jesus carried on for those who would receive Him.
Jesus carried on for those who continued to doubt Him.
Jesus carried on for those who seldom got excited about His grace.
With God, all things are possible.
Conclusion: None of us are beyond being discouraged in our laboring for the Lord. We all get caught up sometimes on the lack of passion and drive of others or allowing the speech of others to discourage our passion for Jesus.
However, let your heart remain on the cross, empty tomb and soon return. You will find yourself never lacking in love and passion in laboring for God.
