Second Sunday of Easter Year B
Introduction
In the Gospel Jesus tells his disciples “Peace be with you as the father has sent me so I send you.” And then he tells Thomas, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me?” Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. I am so glad for doubting Thomas, because there is a doubting Thomas in every one of us, we have all said “I’ll believe it when I see it” haven’t we?
Body
Last week in the Grocery store, you know when someone show you kindness letting you get a head of in the checkout line? Well, it was my turn for pass on the favor and let this man get in front of me, he struck a conversation, about long lines and store not opening a new checkout line, especially during the holy day, then he said not that I care about the holy day! I said o you don’t care about the holyday? It means a lot to me, he said well I am not religious, I said it’s not about religion, but about faith, you know the offer of eternal life, take it or leave it! He said well I am a pragmatic guy I need to see things, I said what would you like to see? he thought about it, couldn’t come up with anything fast, I said if you want to see it’s all around you! he said yeah i never thought about it that way by then, cashier was ready to ring his item, he was buying dog food and I noticed him wearing a wedding band. Thank you good bye!
Conclusion
Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed, that’s all of us, and I pray that man I met in the grocery store. Time permitting, I would have pointed out the obvious all around him to see, the beauty and design of creation, the ability to breath and exist, love his wife, children, his dog, his friends, to be loved back, all rooted in the Love of God in the risen Lord Christ Jesus. And if he didn’t have any of these to know that God is with you always and love’s you just the way you are. As the father has sent me so I send you. That’s us, and I pray that man I met in the grocery store, time permitting I would have asked him to see me a another man who has not seen and have believed, standing before him as a witness, for Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.
