Just a Second
How easy is it for us to spend a second of time? Television, music, yard-work, home projects, solitaire/card games, study/prayer, crossword puzzles, a book, golf/fishing/hunting, taking a Sunday drive, worship, telephone/internet/chat…and the list could go on and on. There is nothing wrong with taking time out of your day to just spend it doing something enjoyable to you. As a matter of fact, God requires that you spend 1/7 of your week genuinely resting. As I’ve read and thought about that this week, each one of us has our own unique way that God has built us to spend that quality time.
You may chuckle at the theory from Star Trek or Star Wars of a spacetime continuum. There are four dimensions that creation lives by as we know it. The three dimensions of space are length, width and height. Time makes up the forth. God is not limited by the laws we live by.
Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
There are 365025 days in 1000 years. 1 second = 4.22 days. 1 minute = 253.2 days.
But that thought process doesn’t begin to enlighten us as to God’s ways. We have no concept imaginable.
God set the sun back 10 degrees for Isaiah as a sign in 38:8. Joshua 10:11-13 gives us the account of God causing the sun and moon to stand still until Israel completed their revenge against their enemies.
But travelers beware!!! Just a second rings in your ears…This spacetime continuum translates into the spiritual realm…
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Steal: to take the property of another wrongfully and esp. as a habitual or regular practice
Kill: to deprive of life : cause the death of
Destroy: to ruin the structure, organic existence, or condition of; also : to ruin as if by tearing to shreds
Mark 9:48 describes hell as where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. Matthew 25:30 describes hell as outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
But there is another “just one second” that you may hear…
Life: the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body
Abundantly: marked by great plenty, amply supplied
Isaiah 55:9-11 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
