Matthew 6:25–34 ESV
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Big Question - Why do we have anxiety?

Truth

Vs 25 - What is anxiety
What is the therefore, therefore?
Look at the passage before.
What is Jesus saying we shouldn’t do?
Be anxious
When God tells us not to do something, and we do it, what is that called?
Sin
Is Jesus calling anxiety sinful?
Yes
What is anxiety?
John Calvin has this to say.
365 Days with Calvin 14 February: Whom Shall I Fear? (Psalm 27:1)

All our fears arise from this source: we are too anxious about our life and fail to acknowledge that God is our preserver. We can have no tranquility until we are persuaded that our life is sufficiently protected by God’s omnipotent power.

What is the answer to Jesus’ question at the end of this verse?
Vs 26 - 30 — Why shouldn’t we be anxious?
Matthew 6:26–30 ESV
Jesus uses a string of examples to make his point clearer. What is his point?
The father provides for His creation
Difference between Deism and Christianity
Deism - A philosophical view of God that posits God as a Creator who set the universe in motion and then stepped back, no longer actively engaging with creation.
Christianity...
Why shouldn’t we be anxious?
God provides for His creation.
Vs 31-34 — Why do we have anxiety?
Matthew 6:31–33 ESV

We have anxiety because we don’t trust God.
Vs 32 - your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. When we don’t believe this we get anxiety .
