“It is Finished!” #1

John 19:28–30 NLT

28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

FINISHED = Greek tetelestai, an accounting term meaning paid in full.

· Jesus PAID the debt owed by man to his Creator

· Adam’s sin is finally and forever dealt with.

· Jesus TOOK away man’s sin

· Jesus REMOVED man’s sin as far as the east is to the west

· provide atonement for sinners

· reconcile man to God

· completion of over 300 Old Testament prophecies, symbols, and foreshadowing about Himself.

Earthquake #1 – Jesus’ Death

Matthew 27:51–52 NLT

51 At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, 52 and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.

Jesus' death was such a dramatic event that even the earth reacted to it.

The word "earth = ges = the whole earth.

The word "quake" is the Greek word seiso, which means to:

shake, to agitate, or to create a commotion

seismograph, the apparatus that registers the intensity of an earthquake.

Confirmation:

Origen, the early Christian leader, recorded that there were "great earthquakes" at the time of Jesus' crucifixion.

Creation fulfilled what man failed

The rocks cry out! Because man refused to praise Jesus

Irony – Mankind is God’s highest creation but was the last to recognize the Creator.

Don’t be passed by

All creation groans for the sons of God to be manifest.

Inanimate objects become animated when God‘s animate children become inanimate

Either way God will be praised and be glorified!

The earth reels from sin

End time shaking dash we are experiencing in these last days one of the final shakings due to our national sin of shedding the blood of the innocent through abortion and also turning our collective backs on God.

The blood of the innocent is crying out.

The shakings are to get us to turn around and wake up before the Lord's return.

Irony - The Roman army of Jesus day had enough sense to recognize the Lord, so should our Generation, especially the church that Christ the Messiah died for.

End time signs- Earthquakes everywhere!

In diverse places, meaning shaking will take place in areas that they do not normally take place, but will anyway. Such as in Sports, education scandals, economy, businesses.

Not just in one place, but in many places. Possibly at the same time.

It is time to wake up!

I find it so amazing that although Israel rejected Jesus and the Roman authorities crucified Him, creation always recognized Him! During His life on this earth, the waves obeyed Him; water turned to wine at His command; fishes and bread multiplied at His touch; the atoms in water solid­ified so He could walk across it; and the wind ceased when He spoke to it. So it should come as no surprise that Jesus' death was a traumatic event for creation. The earth shook, trembled, and shud­dered at the death of its Creator, for it instantly felt its loss.

Rocks Rent

The earth shuddered so violently when Jesus died that even the huge, large rocks were "rent" by the shaking of the earth.

Rent

The word "rent" is schidzo, meaning to rend, to tear, to violently tear asunder, or to terribly fracture. This was a serious earthquake!

It signifies the incredible significance of the death of Jesus Christ! The earthquake.

Timing

The timing of this event was not a coincidence.

This earthquake occurred exactly at Jesus’ death.

Global

this was not just a local geological event—it was felt in adjacent countries.

that the epicenter of this quake was a bloody, hallowed plot of ground known as Golgotha.

Matthew Henry wrote "The earthquake signified the mighty shock and the fatal blow now given to the devil's kingdom. So vigorous was the assault Christ now made upon the infernal powers, that the earth trembled."

The power of sin was broken.

The greatest earthshaking miracle happened when Jesus spilled His blood at Calvary. He was our substitute. He died in our place. Isaiah said: "But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him" (Isa. 53:6b). Jesus did not deserve to die. Yet in the most mind-boggling transaction in history, God transferred all the guilt and shame of the world's sin to the innocent Passover Lamb.

Earthquake #2 – Jesus’ RESURRECTION

Matthew 28:1–3 NLT

1 Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.

Easter is Prophetic of the End times

What does an earthquake do?

Shaken free

Shaking always brings freedom. Paul and Silas.

The earthquakes represent the power of Jesus to set the captives free from sin in bondage and even generational curse. Free from addictions habits, deliverance.

Earthquake #3 – Jesus’ RETURN

Christ’s 2nd coming brings the final shaking

15 “Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

· Jesus will return as unexpectedly as His first coming!

It is Finished!

Final Earthquake

Resurrection #3 – the Living and the Dead

Pattern of three’s in the Bible = completion

We are living in the last days just before the FINAL resurrection of the entire human race is about to take place.

Resurrection of the Living – BEFORE the Millennial Reign

Revelation 20:6 NLT

6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years.

· at Calvary, Jesus transferred the ministry of the priesthood to the Church for 2,000 years.

· Be found faithful with what God has called you to do.

· You will give an account for your life.

Resurrection of the dead - AFTER the Millennial Reign

Revelation 20:11–15 NLT

11 And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.

End time warning, Final shaking brings judgment of mankind in revelation.

· Jesus conquered death through His own death and forever defeated the one who had the power of death!

· The world once judged Jesus, now Jesus judges the world.

· Take time to marvel at what happened on that wondrous cross on Good Friday. Sin has been judged; Satan has been defeated; your sin has been paid for; and the way to God's presence has been opened for you.

· Time is running out, so be ready
