Introduction: When it comes to God stewarding His graces to the hearts of sinners and saints, we must not think for a moment that the story of God’s grace centers around you! The entire narrative of scripture is that God would redeem unto Himself a people for His own glory and praise.
You might now say, “Goodness, God must then be a very self-centered God.” Let me ask you this, “What about you would warrant any praise?” Absolutely NOTHING!
Before you will ever hold “stewardship” as something of great importance to exemplify, you must first be persuaded in your own heart that your stewardship can only exist because of God’s graces given to you and God judges your stewardship according to His own.
Let us take a few moments and learn today God’s position and volition when it comes to stewarding His graces.
The question before you today is this: Does my stewardship model that of God’s and are we using His graces according to His purposes?
1) His Position
1 Peter 5:10
A. His position is shown through His creation
Every created and living thing was created for a divine purpose; God’s glory!
Romans 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
DON’T MISS THIS...God’s position over man is CREATOR and SOVEREIGN!
PERSONAL THOUGHT - The only reason my baby boys is healthy and breathing today rests in God’s sovereign grace!
If you are born-again, He is Lord of your life.
B. His position is shown through scripture
1 Cor. 10:26 For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.
Psalm 89:11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: As for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
Deut. 10:14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the Lord’s thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
C. His position is shown through your personal gifts
1 Cor. 12:4-7, 11
Everything belongs to God.
Now, if God was only “owner” of all things, we would all be in deep poverty (physically and spiritually).
However, God is not only the ruler of all things, but He is the Sovereign STEWARD of all He owns.
What does He own? EVERYTHING!!!
2) His Volitional Stewardship
Notice v10 in our text......
“received the gift...”
This GIFT is speaking of God’s grace.
Question: Who here today petitioned God to provide grace for your every need? NONE OF YOU!
To receive a gift is equal to someone GIVING the gift.
In order for human beings to receive ANYTHING physical or spiritual, God must MAKE A CHOICE!
COMPLETELY DEPENDENT!!!
The choice of sending grace rested completely on the sovereign will of God!
Everything God has done, is doing or going to do is based upon His choosing.
What was God’s motivation for providing grace?
I can tell you what it is NOT; the consistency of man faith, service, worship, etc...
John says, “For God so loved...”
The Lord always gives out of the greatness of His heart. There is no trace of unwillingness. Even when it is His own Son!!!
Bible examples of God’s stewardship:
3) His Objective Stewardship
A. To bring salvation - Titus 2:11
You might say, “I come from a poor family” or “I come from a broken home” or “I come from a background of drug abuse, porn, etc.
Notice the AMAZING truth of this passage; “all (kinds) of men”
He has put to our trust His gospel!
The reason you heard the gospel for the first time was due to someone living in light of their stewardship.
B. To build maturity - Acts 20:32
1 Peter 1:6
Conclusion: You might ask, “Why do you spend so much time explaining God’s position?” A lost sinner truly seeing God for who He is will one day rest his faith in Him!!! Thats what happened to me over 21 years ago. God revealed to me clearly who He was and only then was I able to clearly see who I was. No one can ever be born again until that happens in their heart.
No Christian will ever steward their life and possession for God if they lose sight of God’s position over all that they have.
So, will you believe on Jesus dear lost sinner? Christian, will you now live in light of God’s stewardship?
