Reflections

Proverbs 27:19 As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.

Have you ever looked into a mirror?  Of course all of us have at one time or another…today!!!  But have you thought about its creation process?  I’m going to use certain scriptures tonight to bring about a thought in your mind…a Reflection, if you will.

1.      Glass is the chief substance used in a mirror because of its ease of fabrication, its rigidity and its ability to take a smooth finish.

2.      Tin is the next substance used which is both malleable (can be hammered into shape) and resists corrosion.  It is used because silver will not bond with glass.

3.      Silver comes next in the process which has the highest electrical conductivity of any element and the highest thermal conductivity of any metal, can take a high degree of polish but is tarnishable.

4.      Chemical activator is used to harden the tin and silver.

5.      Copper follows the activator to assist in long-term durability.

6.      Finally, paint is used to protect the coatings on the back of the mirror from scratches and other accidental damages.

1 Corinthians 13:12a Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror

Genesis 1:14-18 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

May I go back and reconsider the creation of the mirror in view of ourselves?

1.      We are made of dirt, which of the greatest of ease to acquire and can be formed into everything that we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch.

2.      Our spirit-man is resistant to evil for a time as we grow to a certain point in maturity, then must be worked to the point of surrender to Christ.  As we mature in our walk with God, our spirit is molded and again becomes resistant to sin.

3.      Our bodies are most susceptible, or conductive, to things that please it.  We can become “charged” to things that grab us personally, and we typically migrate over to things that cause us warm and fuzzies.  Though we spend countless hours prettying ourselves up to the senses, we still age and tarnish.

4.      Something externally sparks us to harden or strengthen, which brings about a change in us internally.

5.      Once we have chosen our course in life, we naturally build up durability for the road that we have chosen, be that God’s way and life, or sin and death.

6.      Finally, once our minds are made up, either God comes in and protects us from all the Devil will bring against us, or the Devil will distort our view of this world and its offerings and do everything he can to shield us from anything eternally good.

2 Corinthians 5:16-20 16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

Proverbs 27:19 As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.

What, or who do others see in you?  As we leave tonight, that’s the only real question that we need the right answer to…
